Question Regarding Dumping Syndrome

Recommended Posts

So here it is ... I am 3 weeks post op for gall bladder removal and gastric imbrication/plication and this week I have had this nervous Jittery feeling a few times. I dont like it, and wondering if anyone else has had this feeling, cause I thought those who had the bypass only suffered dumping.

I am in the mushie stage and not eating anything much other than my Protein drinks, yogurt, Soup, etc. Just dont know if this is due to the missing gall bladder or the imbrication.

Thank you all

P

I've experienced dumping once after taking a Protein shake too fast. It was very scary and extremely acute. It wasn't just jitters- my whole body was shaking, I could barely walk from the living room to my bedroom and my heart was racing while my whole my body was covered in a cold sweat.

I had my gallbladder removed in 1998 and I started experiencing what you are saying within a month of surgery along with cramping. There is going to be sometime for your body to adjust to the change in your digestion without your gallbladder. I tried to keep track of what foods triggered it. Greasy foods of course, but I had trouble with uncooked veggies at first too and sometimes it seems to happen randomly. It gets much better as time goes by. I was sleeved on 2/7 and so far have not experienced anything like it.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
