If it's 25 yards, then it's approximately 65 laps. If it's a 50 yard pool, then 1/2 that. :)

The dims for the pool should be posted somewhere - I bet the gym will even have a chart.

Good luck.

As Tif said it depends on what the length of the pool is - and in what country. Being that most people on the board are from the USA then if it's a "standard" pool it's like she said 25 yards.

There is also an issue about what you consider a LAP - is it ONCE down the length of the pool or TWICE, that is DOWN AND BACK to make a circuit. Logically it ought to be down and back, but MOST people consider a LAP to be ONE LENGTH of a pool. So if you're choosing to interpret it as down and back then cut all the counts in half.

It also depends on what you mean by a mile. Statute mile (regular old mile length like what you drive in a car), nautical mile or "swimming mile".

A regular statute mile is 1760 yards long and in a 25 yard pool would make it 70.4 lengths. This is what I use.

A nautical mile isn't used in swimming much but some do, especially for long distance outdoor events. It is longer at 6076.1 feet or 2025.37 yards making it about 82 laps.

A SWIMMING mile is 1650 yards so it is 66 laps. i have no idea why in the heck this "mile" even exists. It is the closest length to a common race length I guess. It represents nothing but swimming.

So pick your poison, a lap is 1 length or 2 (down and back). A mile is statute at 70.4 lengths or 35.2 down and back laps, nautical at 82 lengths or 41 down and back laps or a swimming mile at 66 lengths or 33 down and back laps.

No wonder the USA is so screwed up :)

I swim in a 25 yard pool it's about 35 laps or 70 lengths. When I competed we did a 1650. So I count a mile every 35 laps.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
