Getting Sleeved On The 16Th! A Few Questions For Those Who Have Been Already...:)

thanks Alexandra I will check on you to see how your doing.... Changetome where are you having your surgery? are you on this horrid diet as well?

At Forest Park Medical Center. Yes I am on the torture "shrink the liver" diet. The first three days were very hard. I think I messed up by drinking creamy Tomato Soup. I wasn't sure if it was allowed, but it sure helped me during those first three days. I think for the last week, I'll go clear liquid.

Hi there!

I know everyone has a different experience but I'll add mine . My pain wasn't that bad. Maybe a 4 or 5. It was sore and uncomfortable mostly. I will say, however, that I've had 4 c-sections, gallbladder removed and a hernia repair all in that same area. I think I've been cut so many times in my abdomen that I have lost a lot of feeling there! That worked to my advantage. For me, the best thing is preparing yourself ahead of time. If you just mentally prepare yourself that there is going to be some pain then you will be a lot better off. This can be a lot more difficult for someone who has not had surgery in that area before b/c you don't know what to expect. I would even tell the doctor ahead of time that you want to make sure you have plenty of pain meds. Let them know!! I have done this in the past with surgeries. I believe I had a pain ball.

Here is one thing I've learned with surgeries. Take the next dose of pain medication during the first day or two even if you think you can tough it out. Once in a surgery, I thought I could tough it out and I skipped the next dose. I regretted it. The pain meds build up in your system too so skipping one made it take longer the next go round . I would advise just keeping up with when your next pain meds are due and if the nurses don't come in buzz them.

As far as Water goes, start sipping when you wake up until you go to sleep. I had a hard time getting it in .I woudln't stress about it but I would actively be sipping away constantly.

Good luck with everything!!!

Well, my experience wasn't typical. I woke up throwing up because turns out I am allergic to morphine. But after that all got straightened out, I was actually really comfortable while I was in the hospital and while I recouped at home. Only pain I really had was when I was getting up or lying down (using stomach muscles.) I also had a hernia repair. I did have a wicked stomach cramp on my left side from pulling the muscle they cut during surgery. So just take recovery slow and don't try to do too much too fast. Keep on posting and CONGRATS!!!!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
