Woo Hoo! I Am Finally Sleeved!

Recommended Posts

Good morning everyone! I had my surgery Thursday the 9th at 7:30 am , was back in my room and walking the halls by noon! I felt pretty good outside of feeling like I did a million sit-ups. I had the best nurses and doctors at U.C Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, kudos to them, they were so supportive and encouraging thru the whole procedure. I have been home since Friday afternoon and so far so good but it is hard to get the fluids in but I am doing it. I slept a lot Saturday and feel better everyday! It is weird to only be able to swallow a small amount at a time and make sure I take the meds they sent home with me but doing ok. I have to go in today for some blood work and then on the 24th for my 2 week appt. I am praying it keep on progressing as it has been cause I feel pretty darn good! Thanks everyone for posting your comments and success stories, it really helped me make the right decisions and keep on track. Take care and I will post again soon! :cheer2:

I'm going in for my prep consultation today. Having a ton of nerves about whether or not I'm doing the right thing. I am the pickiest eater in the world. I can't pallet most dairies or seafood. Worrying if I have the surgery, how I would be able to get my Protein during the first 2 stages after post op. any advise?

Congratulations! I'm at the beginning of my journey and looking forward to getting past the hard parts.

In your opinion, what has been the toughest part?

Bumblebee, there are tons of non dairy Protein powders out there, I suggest one vanilla and one unflavored. There are some good posts here about the different Protein Drinks you can make, there are tons of them from pumpkin pie to orange dream, just start experimenting, you will fins something you like. I use the unflavored in my broth and in my blended Soups, it really gets the protein in you need. I was super nervous but now that I look back, there was no reason, you can do it!!!!

MoreganK,

I think the hardest part was the 2 day clear liquid diet pre op believe it or not, I felt like chewing off my arm!!! LOL! I was soooo freakin hungry! I havent been hungry yet since the surgery, I am having to make myself drink the protein and fluids, which is the important part, you dont want to be back in the hospital on iv fluids because you are dehydrated for sure. After the surgery, it was hard to get up out of bed or get back into bed the first two days but once I was up I was ok. You can do it!!! Best of luck to you both! Let me know if you have any other questions, I am happy to give you my experiences. :bounce:

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
