2 Days Post Opp Questions & Concerns

Ok so my surgery went smoothly! Thank God. So my prescription for blood thinner was 400 bucks so I left that there. I just can't believe how expensive it is, but I know its super important. Has anyone else experience this ? Any suggestions ? Also my Protein Shake is yummy, I was wondering if I could freeze it and eat it like a popsicle?

I was not prescribed blood thinner, so I can't comment on that. The best thing I can advise about the protien shake is congrats on finding a yummy one? Will you please let us know which it is? Try the popscicle thing. Only heat denatures the protien, I think.

Not right now, but you can later add your drinks to puddings, and they freeze creamy-awesome!

Holy moly, $400 for a prescription? Was there not a less expensive option?

I don't know your circumstances, obviously, but the only blood thinner I had was injected during my stay in the hospital. I didn't take anything home with me. The only prescription I left the hospital with was some liquid Lortab pain killer, just in case.

There is a thread on here about someone who was going to make Protein ice cream with the Premier Protein shakes. I will try to dig it up and see if she ended up doing it.

The doc prescribed a blood thinner for a reason. Have the pharmacy call the doc's office and get the med changed to a less costly med. I know that for 3 days after my surgery I had to have a blood thinner injected into my stomach. I was to prevent blood clots. So it is extremely urgent that you contact the pharmacy and have them call to get the prescription changed, or call your docs office and explain to them the cost is too much for you. They will oblige you and change. Please be careful with your health. You are important to all of us on this site. ;) Please keep us updated.

I too was only injected with blood thinners while in the hospital. Between my liquid Vicodin and absorbable Zofran that was $200. Yikes! I'm eating the Zofran like candy. Even Water makes me nauseated.

I too had blood thinner shots in my stomach in the hospital but none to go home with.

My surgery is tomorrow and I will be leaving the hospital with a script for 10 shots of lovenox (sp?). I already called my insurance and it will be close to $400 as well. Thank god for flex spending accounts.

If your dr's office is close, maybe they will let you come to the office for your daily shots and you will only have to cover the co-pay? Wouldn't hurt to ask.

Good luck!

The Lovenox offers patient assistances programs for anyone who gets a scrip for this expensive medicine. I am not sure how much they help with because it doesnt start until 2/15/12. But you can just call them. My doctor said I did have to take them thank GOD!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
