How Long Pain After Eating?

Recommended Posts

I hear a lot of folks saying they get this with certain foods. I get it most of the time. I can feel the food "hit" my stomach, and if it doesn't like it I get pain.

I'm curious what all of you experience? Does the pain last, or is it more at first during the healing phase?

Mine was just during the first 8 weeks or so, which I am told is still healing. However, I have learned to ensure to eat slow...one bite too much can hurt!

I experienced that the first five weeks or so. I'm 14 weeks out and can't remember the last time I had that. Now, if I try to eat one more bite than I should, I am in pain and will sometimes even regurgitate that back up.

I also have found that some foods just won't be tolerated by Sleevie. It doesn't like them anymore. Listen to your body. I can't tolerate yogurt or cottage cheese now...loved them pre-surgery. Now they make my tummy hurt.

Eat slow, under fill your sleeve... if something does not agree, try again in a week or two. Constant pain from eating needs to be reported to the doc.

I still have some pain when I eat something with sugar! I like it though, it's a quick reminder that I don't want to eat sugary things anyways. LOL ;)

I am just over three weeks out, so as far as long term, I can not speak to that. What i have found is if I eat wrong, I feel it. By eating wrong, I am refering to not chewing my food up enough. Or eating something that doesn't agree with me. I had this last night. I was a bit hungry, ate, but didn't chew enough. Then foolishly drank Water after. The reaction? Vomited. Up came the Water followed by the undigested half chewed food.< /p>

Today I am still a bit irritated in my esophagus after last nights regurg-fest. I made a scrambled egg with some cheese, and it sat for quite a while.

I don't want to call it so much as pain for me as it is a very very uncomfortable feeling of food lodged there.

Great topic.

Thanks everyone! I am taking it easy, trying my best to chew, chew, chew, and stopping anything my sleeve doesn't seem to like. I am just hoping that the pain part will eventually go away. It's not constant. But when it does come, boy oh boy!!

Jewel, I still have some pain when I eat things that Rex (my sleeve) doesn't like. I can't do jalapenos or anything more spicy than pepper, and sometimes even pepper makes him act up!

However, I don't have the constant pain, and I only remember having pain when I ate or drank too quickly. It's definitely behavior modification for us!! :)

Good luck!!

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
