I have always been a big burper, but it seems that now it is WAY worse!!

Whenever I drink something either with or without a straw. And usually after I eat anything. I burp like I have had a large coke!

I am taking one previcid (sp) a day and the burping is getting worse not better.

some days it actually will be better and I'll think.. it is finally over, but then the next day may be the worse yet. does anyone have ideas to reduce the air???

I also have some burping but I think it has more to do with the amount of Fluid that I drink in one gulp and the amount of food that is on my spoon or fork. Maybe I'm nuts but it does seem that if I continue to take small amounts of fluid and food at a time I do much better.....plus I do not get that uncomfortable feeling when I have taken too much.

I was told to never use straws again. I have had the burpy feeling going on and I think it is less of a problem when smaller sips and bites are taken. I am still on my doctor's version of full liquids (thick Soups, cracker in Soup, yogurt, etc.) and am eating with demitasse spoons. Also, a lot of walking seems to help it subside.

I am 2 months post-op. I now have to burp for a few minutes after every meal. After that I'm fine until my next meal. If I'm with people I try to be discreet about it or I excuse myself and go somewhere private. A few burps after a meal is no big deal; I'd rather have that problem than the weight back.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
