I got my first fill....am I supposed to be on liquids for a few days???

Recommended Posts

I got my first fill. It was fairly uneventful except I have a big red blotch where the needle was stuck on my skin. Is that normal? Am I supposed to be on liquids for a few days??? I had the bottle of Water they gave me and some apple juice and I feel full. I hope it works. They put in 2.2 cc's. I don't know if that is a little or a lot. He did mention my stomach is smaller than the average so he said I may need another fill in a few weeks.:rolleyes

Please, experienced bandsters, let me know what you guys think. Any advice would be appreciated.

My doc tells us to be on liquids the rest of the fill day and the following day and them move to mushies for a couple of days and then back to regular food.

I think liquids for some length of time after fills is pretty standard...didn't they give you any instructions? I'd call and ask them.

My fill doctor has me do 2-3 days of the full liquid stage (i.e. anything you can suck through a straw) and then graduate myself as tolerated to mushies and solids.

As for the amount of fill, it varies for every body. Some people never need a fill, others will need to be filled all the way. There is really no common ground when it comes to the amount of fill. Good Luck!

My doctor says 48 hours on liquids after a fill. My first fill was 2cc but now after my 3rd I'm at 4.5 and finally feeling restriction.

My dr seems the most strict of those writing so far....2 days of Clear Liquids and 2 days of full liquids then slow advancement.....

Needles are traumatic...and they may have used some numbing spray (mine does) and this could cause some redness....if it doesn't go away then call your doc tomorrow...you can even try a little ice on their.

2.2cc's seems ok to me....my dr did 2.3 cc in my band first fill.....

God bless,

Melody

Congrats on your first fill Laura! Let me know how it goes. I've had a few good days of eating, so I scheduled a fill for the 3rd week of August.

Congrats on your first fill.

At the clinic I use, we are told to "take it easy" for the rest of the day. I specially asked about the liquids for the rest of they day, and was told that wasn't neccessary.

But it is important ot take it easy after your fills because you might now be ready for how tight you actaully are.

Good luck!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
