How Long To Start Losing Weight After Surgery?

Recommended Posts

I had surgery on December 28th and I gained 15 pounds from surgery. DOS I weighed 275 and now weigh 265 pounds. Which leaves me with an additional 5 pounds to lose from surgery. When can expect to see some real weight loss?

I'm one week post-op. I was up 6 lbs from surgery which kinda freaked me out as well. It took a couple of days for me to drop those 6 lbs and since then I've dropped another 9 lbs. Don't worry - it will come off!

the elevation in weight is from all the IV fluids they pumped into you It can take awhile for your body to reabsorb that, then you will see the weight melt off

surgery date 12/19/11

I started really seeing the weight come off within the first two weeks. Of course, I lost 13 pounds pre-op, not large amounts like some others. I also started with a higher BMI than many others.

Rest assured that your weight WILL come off, and very quickly! I am 4 months post-op and I have lost 74 pounds as of yesterday. It's almost like magic! :)

Don't worry! It will come off of you but I hear there is a 3 week stall. I didn't have that problem myself. The only reason you lose weight is your body is burning more calories than you are consuming.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
