13 Days Post Op, Lost 15 Lbs But...

Recommended Posts

I am still craving carbs BIG TIME. I met with my surgeon yesterday and it was a relief to hear that my hunger I'm experiencing is common after stoping some of the prescription meds I was taking pre-op. Metformin being the biggie but also no high cholesterol meds etc... I had a bad eating habit of eating large amounts of Pasta or rice before surgery, sometimes with bread. My diet was carbs, carbs, carbs. I am so happy to be given this new start to my life but not eating my carbs is harder than I would have ever imagined. My Dr. Cleared me for most solid foods now so starting today is going to be a big challenge not to stray to the unhealthy food. Any advice from someone who has been where I am at?

I am almost 2 months out and im still taking it slow on food. i am cleared for solids but i stick to soft foods. after not eating carbs for about 3 months they no longer interest me. i too was a big carbs fan before surgery, i had carbs with every meal. i would say to take it slow and listen to your new stomach, it will let you know if you are ready or not. stay away from dry meats they dont go down well at all. right now i stick to things like tuna salad, chicken salad, chili, and other soft meats.

Thank you for the reply. I am kinda a picky eater, it's not the best when you choose to do this kind of thing lol. I like Soups high in Protein with soft chicken but I feel guilty for the potatoe or noodles in them.

I am not interested in carbs anymore either. I do crave bread with EVOO and balsamic vinegar. That is really the only thing I want to dive into. You are still early in the game. Concentrate on your Protein intake and those carb craving should go away.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
