I Want To Cheat - 10 Days Post Gastric Sleeve Surgery

Recommended Posts

Hi realtor,

My niece stayed with me the first few days but she had to get back to her family. Since I'm older and essentially live alone I asked if I could have a vn. She was here for just 3 visits. Very helpful, too. I did have some excessive bleeding during the surgery and I had other pblms as well so I think it was a precaution, too. I'm just starting to feel some soreness in my lower abdomen. Is that something to worry about? Haven't had any abdominal pain that could be numbered....

Maybe doing things backwards.

How are you doing?

I'm 4 weeks out and I'm having soreness around my incisions when I bend down. I saw my doc yesterday and he said that was part of healing. Prior to that I was pain free. Please ask your doc to be sure.

Rosy,

It gives me comfort in knowing/hearing of your feelings both physical and emotional.

As I read the threads here tonight, I've noticed you have pulled yourself together through one of the most difficult times in your life.

I had the LapBand surgery doone 5 years ago. It was not a good experience for me what so ever. Too each his/her own.

Thru your posts I've felt your Pain and yet literally heard a sigh of relief. regular_smile.gif That's where the strength lies!!

I'm agressively looking into having my band removed and have the sleeve done as a revisional surgery. The post-op surgery days can suck!! I know it and have been through the worst of it as well.

Regardless the afterward food restriction on any WLS, the healing is the most important part.

Try not to put so much pressure on yourself Rosy.

I'm so happy physically& emotionally feeling better & you're pushing yourself with the help from the site.

Thanks for the honesty and sharing in your transformation on your journey.

My next journey is yet to come!!

Thanks Everyone Here...rose.gif

This is a great thread! I remember the first couple of days after surgery in pain, vomiting, shaky, weak, etc and thinking "they all lied to me! Those people on the forum are fakes! This is terrible!". Lol....I thought I was done for and that I had mutilated myself. Now just a month later I think this is the best thing I ever did for myself. The hardest part is the beginning, but you get through it. It totally sucks, no doubt about that. In 6 months from now all of us newbies will be rockin our sleeves. It will get better :) and it sounds like things are already turning around for you!

That's an upbeat mssage...my doctor said the surgery was the easy part and the hard part comes afterwards but I assumed I knew what he was talking abut and didn't even think to ask...what does he know, anyway? Oh well. I'm down another couple of lbs this a.m. will get a move on the day as I have to pick up the doggie. I hope I'm equal to the beast coming home. Anyone want a rescued, biting, barking lahsa apso mix? What? No? But she's adorable! Free. Ok $50 to the first one to take her safely off my hands....$55????

Ps thanks for verifying exactly what I was thinking: the whole forum is a scam to get people into the surgery....paranoia will not be denied! <grin>

Pps: I'm resigned to mucking thru the next 4 weeks. I am not looking for an alternative, at least I don't think I am. Does that mean I grew up? <bronx cheer>

I am glad your surgeons office sent you the new diet to start next week! I will say, if you think something should be on the list that isn't - ASK! I was told by my nutritionist I was putting too many rules on myself - all I was doing is following what I was given! I mentioned a few things I tried that weren't on the list that I thought should be and she was fine with them all!! So my list at least is not all inclusive!!

It specifically says "if it is not on this list, u cannot have it!" That includes gum and sf Jello. They will send me the new diet Monday nite and I am not to start eating any of the new diet before I see the surgeon on tues.

There is zero leeway in this. Zip. Zero...nada...zilch

Nice try! But they aren't playing any games.

Well, shoot!! I'm sorry! We were given all of our guidelines at the very beginning but the first step (full liquids for me) we couldn't advance off of until we saw the surgeon so I understand that. It was probably my 2nd nutritionist visit after surgery where she told me I was placing too many rules on myself and I was really struggling. Hate to wish away the weekend for you but I hope it goes by quick!!

According to Houston Surgical Specialists you can restart Aspirin 48 hours post op and Caffeine 7 days post of.

Thats why its hard to get a definitive answer on these boards.

What an apt name!

Perhaps YOU were placing too many restrictions on yourself.

Perhaps my situation is a wee bit different.

I was NOT asking folks to say what they can/can't do with bragging rights included. I was asking for support and empathy which most respondents provided.

I did distinctly post thefact that id come to accept what my surgeon's office was offering.

And here you're promoting your nutritionist's advice to you.

Your solution is better for you. I'm glad she helped you. Have a good weekend.

Capt derel,

Yep. I personally don't think the boards are the place for definitive answers. We each bought a particular surgeon's program and that's the one we need to follow. When we go nuts (guilty yer honor) because of the set of restrictions we bought, we might take to the boards and seek to state our outrage at the dumb stupid plan our surgeons throw at us and hire military style rule enforcers to deal with our inquiries, protests and hissyfits.

Each one of us is reeling after surgery and clutching our pre surgical logic driven means for survival modes of living to muck through this horrid scene we find ourselves in whilst our 'friends' chomp, slurp, and offer advice right to our faces.

If you want to eat chocolate covered potato chips the first week after surgery I bet you can find the support for it on the forum!

I'm sticking with what I bought.

I still reserve the right to complain and to garner sympathy and beg for hugs.

If you found a way to allow yourself to take the meds you want and are convinced that program knows better than the one that sleeved you, then I would say you are risking the "change horses at mid stream" move. If you're prepared for the consequences of your program discovering what you did (and they prolly won't) then o.k., do what you think is best.

But if you want to practice discipline that attends compliance and sticking to it with what I started, then try to hold on just a bit longer. We won't be in our surgical program's thrall for ever.

My mom and I used to say "we can get thru anything together." I'm here for the together part. I offer my support to you, too.

And hugs if u want 'em,

Reallyrosie

Rosy -

I am sorry if you took what I said as "You should do this because my Nut said it was ok." My intention was just to say if you hadn't spoken with your Nutritionist at your Surgeon's office you should, as you hadn't mentioned speaking to anyone except your Surgeon. Believe me, my program is far from lenient and I have believed it to be one of the more stricter ones I have seen on this board so I would never suggest you not follow your own programs directions, just wanted to mention I had all the "papers" for mine and that wasn't the whole picture - in my case. Have a good Sunday.

Thank u for the clarification...it makes a world of difference!

Nobody in the surgeon's office has officially been identified as a nutritionist. The nurse who is serving in that capacity tells me she is known as "GI Jane" and she is very stern and strict. Although we are encouraged to ask questions, I personally would rather not get my head bitten off so rein any q's in. If it didn't say in handwritten letters "if it is not on this paper, you can't have it" I would've asked for the moon, maybe.

Right now I'm finding that my lower abdomen is tender and warm to touch. I prefer 1/4 packet Water flavoring to a whole packet. I have not had any sensation of hunger, yet. And, I'm continuing to lose 1 to 1.5 lb per day. The ketosis taste seems to have dissapated (or I got used to it?) Tues is my 2 wk follow up. To quote Kermit: "time's fun when you're having flies."

Enjoy

Haha GI Jane! That would describe my Dr's nurse as well - on the phone the woman scares me but she is nice in person although still stern and scary. My office has two NUT's and unfortunately I have the stricter of the two but have learned that the program manager is also a NUT and so technically there are 3 - sometimes they conflict and that causes me so much frustration.Think crying fits.

I'm a "by the book" person which has always worked for me but not with this - ugh! I'm telling you I have a pdf of my program and would diligently check it before I ate anything in the early days moving through the stages! I'm far enough out now that I can have anything - but guess what?? They discovered a leak when I was 3 months out - jokes on me, I am now on tube feedings and nothing by mouth. Thankfully I also lost my hunger otherwise I would be going a little nutty right now. I was so worried I did it to myself, my NUT was not happy that I didn't eat as much as I should and I pushed for her. In reality, it was the abscess from the leak (discovered 3 weeks before the leak) that was pressing on my sleeve and giving me even more restriction. Once they drained it I was able to eat much closer to where they wanted me to be. Then boom, the leak was discovered (didn't show on the first leak test, standing, only when I was laying down). Sorry no more food for you! They say it was there from the beginning, when the swelling went down it opened. The only symptom I had was left shoulder pain and they - including NUT, Surgeon, PA, nurse and primary - all said it was from acid reflux. I had no temp, wasn't sick with it. It was all found because of a bad Iron panel that sent me to the hematologist. Pfft. So over it all. Hoping next year is better.

I am glad your appointment is Tuesday!! I'm worried about your abdomen being warm - tender is pretty standard I think though.

Hang in there and keep drinking your flavored water! Isn't it weird how things taste so much stronger - sweeter or saltier now?? My smell is on overdrive as well. I can't do a whole flavor pack either! My husband thinks I am nuts. Some days I wonder myself.

I am pretty much sucking my lower lip. On 10th day out from surgery and on Clear liquids. I can't take it anymore. They don't even allow sf Jello. I hate sweets and find sf sweet sickening. I'm not pishing as much as I take in (3 to 4 17 oz bottles) plus a few cups of lowsalt no fat broth. Ice pops freeze my mouth. I'm going nuts and I'm ready to take a bite of cheese or other solid food without talking to the doc or nurse. I hate this.

When some people find it hard to stick to the diet, it is wise to give your surgeon a call. Some people heal a lot faster than others and might be why you are experiencing these cravings. Sometimes the surgeon will modify your eating schedule. Good luck. Also, 64 oz this early out is actually really good, IMO. It's really tough for a lot of folks this early out to get that much Fluid in.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
