My doctor didn't advise me to eat dill pickles, but they've always been a go-to snack for me when I'm trying to lose weight because they're only about 10 calories, they're crunchy, and they're salty. Perfect for me.

They do come in handy and it's time to buy another jar.

The Vlasic Snack'mm's are really good and crunchy. There are three in a serving cuz they are small, but even if you only eat one, it is very tasty and crunchy. No calories or carbs. tastes good with turkey slice and string cheese.

Yessss the turkey slice, cheese and pickles are a good quick meal.

I liked dill pickles before surgery. Now I'm a freaking addict. Every time my family orders out or we go out to dinner I'll order wraps or something with EXTRA PICKLES and then only eat the pickles and save everything else for later. It's kinda sad.

I fell in love with them all over again. I get real creative now.

Not to rain on anyones parade but I was warned not to eat pickles or to "skin" them until i was at 6 months...I would just suggest you check with your nutritionist or doctor. I was told the skin is hard to digest and like apple skin I shouldnt eat it until 6 months post op.

Now I love to wrap up a pickle with a little cream cheese or some laughing cow and a piece of turkey.

Don't worry, you are not raining on my parade because remember my doctor is the one who told me to eat them. Every doctor has different guidelines for their patients and this is the program he set up for me. Now your nutritionist may have a different program set up for you.

Thanks for posting your concern. I wish you the best on your journey.

Pickles are a great snack! I ate pickles after my 3rd month, but couldn't eat apples without peeling them. The only thing i still can't eat is lettuce, the pain is so bad, so I stay FAR AWAY from lettuce. Oh and into my 3rd year, i've developed lactose intolerance. . .nearly died from 1 glass of fat free skim milk! go figure! hubbie nearly called the ambulance the pain was so bad. . . sooooooooooo no milk products for this person! Isn't it neat how we are all so autonomous

Wow so sorry to hear that. I guess I have a sleeve of steel because so far nothing bothers me. I only vomitted once and that was when I woke up from surgery and realized I had a freakin tube down my throat lol.

My doctor and dietician suggested them and said it was fine to eat them as long as I took small bites and chewed well. That's why I like the Snak'mm's cuz they are so small. and even if you eat just one, it gives your diet kind of a zing you are craving! I was advised though to peel anything with skin (apples, pears, tomatoes) right now.

Hi T1D,

When you say "lettuce", do you mean iceberg (regular) lettuce? Or maybe Romaine? I am wondering, what do you use for salads?

Flagstaffian, I can not tolerate any type of leafy lettuce or raw spinach. I don't eat veggie salads at all. I'll have veggies on the side, like tomatoes, cucumbers, radishes, etc. . only not mixed up together and definately NOT the leafy things. Cooked spinach is ok.

I love love love me some dill pickles! This was always one of my mom and my go to foods when we were low carbin'. I love to drink the juice too. Umm! This actually has more of a benefit than you may know though. A bitter or sour food eaten with a meal greatly decreases it's glycemic effect on the body. So suck those sour little babies up. They are helping you get closed to you goal one pucker at a time :0)

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!
