Barium & another question

Recommended Posts

Hi, its countdown time. Surgery is Aug. 4th

Just got back from hospital for the preliminary tests. EKG, more blood tests, chest x-ray and an upper GI.

The barium is still grossing me out and its 3 hours later!:speechles Do I have to swallow barium every time I get a fill? I sure hope not. blah!

One thing they didn't do and they didn't bring up is my gallbladder. I have still have it. I told the surgeon so he knows. But there was no test or ultrasound or anything to check for gallstones. Is that supposed to happen? Does it need to happen?

Thanks guys!

Diva that barium is GGGRRROOOSSSSSSSSSSSSS. I almost threw up on the radiologist at the hospital . They took me to radiology right out of the recovery room for one.

The place where I do my fills has flavored barium. Much more tolerable the the hospital barium:puke:

I only had to drink barium one time post-op and that was right before I left the hospital to make sure all was OK with the band. Thankfully, the amount was only about an ounce or two so it wasn't too bad.

Some MDs do fills under flouroscopy with barium. Check with yours and you'll get your answer.

Good luck with the upcoming surgery.

I only have to drink Water with my fills. The only time I had barium was right after surgery for the swallow test. We're all counting down with you, good luck and congrats.

Hey Diva!

My date is the 4th. also. I'm really not looking forward to the barium. I'll just pretend its cough Syrup, I hate that stuff too. You had a lot more pre-op tests than me. I just had bloodwork and an EKG. When do you have to start liquids?

The barium drinks don't bother me. I didn't even have an aftertaste. Must be something wrong with me, I could drink them everyday and not be bothered...okay starting to scare myself now..LOL

Ok so no barrium on the rocks parties? blah! My husband and I have been doing that schtick all night-barrium straight up, barrium margaritas, barrium and coke, barrium shaken not stirred, barrium with a beer chaser, barrium shooters, barrium mojita. LOL!

Hey Kutia! Our band birthdays! What time and where? I have to be there by 6:30 am but I found out today the surgery will be at 7:30 am. I'll be in Boston at New England Medical Center with Dr. Tarnoff.

I'm in Dallas, TX. I've have to be there at 11:30 a.m. so I guess mine will be at 12:30. I'm happy about that, I am so not a morning person. :faint:

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
