Hungry But Can't Eat Because Of Heartburn

Recommended Posts

I can take about 4 small bites of something and have to quit eating cause I get heartburn so bad. Does this happen to anyone else? My husband had this same surgery but this never happened to him. I am taking 150mg of zantac twice a day and it helps some but not enough.

Try something else. I had to switch from prilosec to Nexium then I got relief. But for me I was waking up in the middle of the night choking, feel like I couldnt lie down flat, felt sick to my stomach all afternoon. Good luck to you.

Hey Christy,

I was having a problem with that too. The Prilosec really helped with that and any sour stomach that I have. I take it once a day. I'm still not back at work because I just don't have the energy. I plan to go back tomorrow though...dreading it....I'll let you know how it goies. I'm down about 20lbs in the two weeks since surgery. How about you?

I'll have to get that and try it. I hope it works for me. I still get tired after being up about 5 or 6 hours. I have started taking a one a day Vitamin and B12. So I hope that's helps. I am down 21 pounds in 2 weeks.

Good luck with going back to work.

You can get OTC Omeprazole... it worked for me for the first 6 months, then I quit because I was worrying about Calcium absorption. I have not had any acid except about three days of mild heartburn in the last 5 months. I think if you get on the right PPI you will feel much better.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
