Did You Get Disability Time Off From Work Or Have To Use Vacation Time For Gastric Sleeve Surgery?

Recommended Posts

Me-again,

If he has been at his job for at least one year and works full time, he should be able to take "Paid Family Leave". Under FMLA (Family and Medical Leave Act) an employee can take up to 12 weeks per year (that don't have to be consecutive) to care for a newborn or sick immediate family member.

Here is the link to the FMLA website:

I took 3 and a half weeks of paid disability and cashed out about 25 hours of PTO about two weeks before going out (I accrue 2 days per month so it won't take very long to build it back up again). All I had to do was fill out the forms and my doctor's office took care of the rest.

I am on day 5 of PTO.

I wish I could go back on Monday but still pretty week.

Our short term disability only kicks in at 14 business days off which is b.s. because it is completely employee paid and not $1.00 employer paid.

Oh well, as least I have pto!

I did not work at my company a full year to qualify for the disability leave so had to use 2 PTO days and work from home 2 days. On Monday I am returning to work for the first time. I don't want to lose money or my job so I feel I have to be back ASAP.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
