I know there are a few post on here about this but I have not found all the info I am looking for. I am 18 days post opt and have been on the mushie diet for a couple days now. My problem is that I am now hungry a lot more than I think I should be. I try to eat small portions usually about 1/2 cup and that usually does the trick, but I am hungry again in about an hour or so. I am eating foods with Protein so I know that’s not the problem. I have also been at a stall now for about a week and that is starting to play mind games on me. Does anyone have any experience with this? I could really use some good news. Thanks Mike

Are you on an acid blocker? Some folks find that what they are experiencing as hunger is actually the result of excess stomach acid. If you aren't taking a blocker, you might ask your doctor if you should be taking something like Prilosec. It seems that many post-ops (like me) are put on it automatically for up to six months after surgery.

Good luck to you!

Are you feeling a physical stomach pain type hungry like you felt before surgery? or are you just craving food/eating in your head?

It could be from habit - I felt a strong urge to eat very often until a day ago - I think the old habit is finally falling away.

I am about 23 days post-op and I get a achy feeling in my tummy on occasion - like right now I have it - but I just ate a meal less than 2 hours ago.

Maybe my tummy is already empty but I know I should not eat again. I am having a sugar free popsicle as a snack and drinking Water to fill my tummy instead. My achy-ness is not like hunger I had before surgery so I suspect it might be excess stomach acid or just the feeling of food digesting in my new tiny tummy or gas in my tummy. Sometime if I can get myself to burp I feel better.

I think it is a little of both when it comes to my hunger. I think that I might actually mentally convince myself that I am hungry and then I start to feel hungry. I have been struggling to get in all 64 oz of Water. It seems like the more water I drink the quicker I get hungry and the more my stomach growls. I don't believe that I am having any problems with acid since I have been taking my zantac.

I'm experiencing everything you have mentioned. I'd like answers, too. Good post.

Don't drink Water too close to eating. Wait at least half an hour after eating to drink anything. Also, take an acid reducer of some kind. If your doc hasn't prescribed one, ask about the over the counter version.

I think you might also try drinking slower. I kept thinking I was hungry when I was actually having pouch pain from drinking too much too fast. At nearly 3 months out, I'm now actually experiencing hunger, but it's very mild.

Good luck on your journey.

Today I skipped my liquid zantac and got some tums instead. I haven't had much of an appetite so far today. I have also ensured I didn't drink anything for atleast 30 minutes after eating. I hope this continues to do the trick. Thanks to everyone for their advice.

I believe your confusing hunger feelings for nausea feeling, I noticed I it those a few times an still do, a big glass of Water took them away instantly. That's why doctor says drink water all throughout the day to maintain hydrated and full.

I've been hungry since two days post-op, and I'm still hungry to this day. Never lost the hunger, alas. But I did get fuller on 'real' food than on mushy stuff, so after a meal, I would be full again for at least 2-3 hours...at which point it was anyhow time for my next meal or snack. But when you are feeling hungry and it's not time to eat, I find that hot tea or coffee (both with milk in) takes the edge off and makes you feel like you've had some nutrition. Yeah, that and just drinking a lot of liquids has always helped me. And Gavison from time to time. Good luck!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
