Frustrated & failing... Fills and Fill Doctors...

Recommended Posts

I had my first fill on 7/11. It was .6cc in a 4 cc band.

I have the first bite syndrome.

I can not eat first thing in the morning, BUT after 1 o'clock in the afternoon I can eat ANYTHING. bread included. My quantities are less, but tonight I ate 3 pieces of thin crust pizza. (bad choice I know, but it went down). I don't get a golf ball feeling except with the first few bites, then I can eat. It seems that I can any amount of ground meat, but I try to measure it.

I have been eating only Protein but tonight I went off the deep end. SOMETHING IS WRONG! I think I need a fill, BUT SCOR is "out of network" and will cost $150.00 per fill. I have TRS activecare BC/BS.

My only other choice it seems is Dr. Maese, and he has rec'd varied reports from members of the board.

I don't know what to do. I have not lost any more weight. Some people banded on the same day have lost 3 times what I have.

I am frustrated. Crying. Stressed.... and hungry.

What would you do? Wait for a fill? Get a fill asap? I have read all of the "how to know if you need a fill" things, and the first half of the day, I don't need one, but the second half I do. It is so freaken crazy!!!

Does anyone else know of a fill doctor in Allen/Plano area?

I'm sorry you're going through this. My vote would be to go for a fill. Many people with proper restriction have what you have - first bite syndrome, tight in the mornings, etc.

I don't have first bite syndrome, but I am tighter in the mornings. I find if I'm eating a lot (more than 1/2 c. of food) or I'm hungry 2-3 hours after eating, I need a fill. Keep in mind that I'm 10 months out and have 2.9cc in a 4cc band. Every person is different but those are my guidelines.

Keep us posted.

It sounds to me like you need a fill too. I would fill to the point where you have normal restriction for the second half of the day. A lot of people are tight in the morning and end up having to do liquids for Breakfast. I think as long as you can get liquids down the first part of the day, and then eat normal small meals and Snacks in the second half of the day and feel full and satisfied, it should be good. As far as the golf-ball with the first few bites, the first bite syndrome thing, all I can suggest is trying to slow down even more with really tiny bites, and lots and lots of chewing. In the meantime do your best to eat like a bandster, and don't be too hard on yourself. You may not have lost as much as some, but you're losing more than others, some people are gaining! It's still really new to all of us, and it's going to take time and patience to work it out individually. Some days I wish it were a miracle cure, but I know it's not.

XO

Leila

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
