I hate TPN 12 hours a day

Recommended Posts

The TPN doesnt allow me to "want" to eat. How can I get off if im still not eating. The doctor agreed to change me from 12 hours to 6 so hopefully this works. i hope to be off completley in a week or so. Im ready to get back to my life. Anyone out there on TPN? Any food suggestions (I was sleeved a month ago)

I was on TPN for over 2 weeks, and was weaned off over a few days.

Clear liquids for 17 days, then I was on full liquids for a week and then progressed through mushies/puree/super soft moist foods for another month or so, and actually stayed on purees/mush food until 3 months when I could really eat a more solid, dense meal more than once per day.

TPN is Total Parental Nutrition. I needed this because I have not been eating anything since I got my sleeve done. I lost 18 lbs in 4 days. I was in the hospital for a month after surgery. Im better now and at home trying to eat a little here and there.

Thanks Tiffykins. Hearing that you seem to have been on the same schedule I am makes me feel better. I always am comparing myself to my fre\iends who had their sleeves done around the same time as me and they have progressed thru the food stages without any problems.

Thanks again

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
