Day 4 - Post Op - getting harder, not easier

Recommended Posts

I had a really uneventful surgery and hospital stay. Now that I'm home my sleeve is kickin my ass big time.

I feel like i'm hungry at times, so I sip on some Soup or a little of my Protein Shake. I feel ok at first, then i begin to get these horrible hiccup-like spasms that hurt like hell.

I'm at my wits end because the emotional side of me keeps chiming in, telling me that I shouldnt have had the surgery. I'm trying very hard to remain on the positive and "it'll get better soon" side, but I feel like if I hear that one more time I may go postal.

My nutritionist told me to concentrate on staying hydrated for now. 60 to 80 grams of Protein should be my goal each day, but she doesnt want me to focus on that too much just yet, just try to get and keep as much Fluid down as I can. I've been trying to drink Water, my shakes, and soup, but i dont feel like I'm getting that much in. I was sooo not ready for this part of the game.

They want me to take Omeperazole (prilosec) once a day, but that just aint happenin. Am I sabotaging myself by not taking it? I tried once in a little applesauce as recommended by the doc, and almost threw up which was enough for me to realize that I just can tolerate it right now.

Why didnt yall tell me about this part? OMG, I just want to run to Popeye's right now and get a 4 piece (dark meat) and bury my troubles in the box. Of course I know that cant happen, but it's really how Im feeling after dealing with this discomfort.

You should definitely take the Prilosec! Every day. It will help. You will be able to take larger sips as time passes. Just wait a minute between drinks. I am 11 days out and feel much better!

I almost threw it up. Gotta find a way to get it down and have it stay there. Any suggestions?

Take it with some warm tea.. the warm liquids seems to ease my pain and help me take my pills.. I was just sleeved on the 17th.. not even a week out.. I hear you on those spasms.. they suck.. keep your head up.. when you start seeing those major results rolling in the next few weeks you will be glad you did it. Today I made cupcakes with homemade butter cream frosting for my family.. and I almost.. almost just licked the frosting right off the top of one.. ugh.. would have been sooooo gooood.. but I would have suffered a looooong time :) Keep it up and keep up with this forum.. helps me stay motivated!

I can totally relate! You sound exactly like I did when I got home from the hospital. Contact your physician for an antinausea medication. It saved my sanity. Your sleeve is very swollen and irritated. I had the horrible spasms too. When you get them just stop drinking for a bit. It was extremely hard for me to get my Water and Protein in the first 4 weeks. Just do the best you can. Yes you need that prilosec. It will help your sleeve heal. Dump the contents into a spoonful of applesauce, pudding or yogurt. And work on getting it down slowly. It will take a while. Warm liquids are great too. They seemed to go down easier in the beginning. Good luck.

My surgeon gave me a prescription for an antacid similar to the one you have, it is very important! It could be the acid making your stomach so upset. My surgeon also gave me a prescription for anti-nausea medicine. Maybe you can ask for some so that you can get it down.

Good luck, and I promise it gets better.

Yes! You can dump that in an ounce of warm tea and take it.. I was told not to take any capsules, to open them and put them in something I can tolerate.. I put mine in my yogurt for lunch. Warm tea is what I used to drink when food would get stuck (I had pretty bad acid reflux for years).. It seemed to relax the muscles and help reduce swelling.. Hang in there!

It will be two weeks for me this coming Monday. I had a horrible time ...I mean the pain for me was unbearable and I was so dehydratied that it was unreal... 2 sips and I'm nauseous still and I take the prilosec daily and have a anti nausea medicine patch on. My emotions are still going crazy. I keep thinking the same thoughts...why did I do this to myself? I will say it is definitely getting better day by day. Take it easy though. I thought I was doing really good and I went out for a shopping day and the pain came back with a vengeance...I definitely did too much. Try to get at least some warm chicken broth down...SIP it..and also sugar free vitamim Water worked for me. Hope it gets better...just know that u are not alone :)

They have the prevacid orally disintegrating tabs. They're really expensive though if your insurance doesn't cover them. And of course they're on backorder (at least at the pharmacy where I work)

I'm a 8 weeks out now but my pharmacist told me NOT to open the capsules... You might want to make a quick call on that one and make sure it's ok.

It gets better, I promise!!! The first week is hell but man oh man it feels sooooo good when you get into your skinny jeans!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
