Are you always hungry?

Recommended Posts

I was banded 5/24/2006 and first fill of .6cc on 6/27/2006 and didn't fill any restriction. Had 2nd fill on 7/12/2006 of .6cc making a total of 1cc, I still don't fill any restriction. I can eat WAY more than a cup with no problem, but I am hungry ALL the time. Why? Is there a reason for this? I am going to schedule another fill soon because this just isn't right. Why should I be hungry all the time, my stomach just growls, and I drink lots of Water, so it's not that. Thanks for your help.

I'm not hungry all the time but I definitely think about food all the time. I'm struggling with head hunger but that doesn't sound like what's happening with you.

A growling tummy is hard to ignore. Good luck.

I agree Donna, I'm not physically hungry all the time, I'm mentally hungry and the more stress the more ravenous I get

I have only been banded for two weeks and I am hungry quite often as well. I skipped the liquid diet in the beginning, because I was starving. After surgery, I was under the impression that I would not be as hungry. I don't really feel any diffrent. I was hoping that this would be better after a fill.

Getting a fill will help with the hunger, also, your body is going to have to get used to the idea that there isn't always gonna be something in your stomach.

Another thing to consider is that stomach growling is different than actual hunger pains. If it's JUST making noise, maybe you aren't really hungry, but if the noise accompanies the pain, definately schedule a fill.

Hi, Patsy......Dr. B was my surgeon, too.

What are you eating? I know that if we eat carbs it just promotes craving for more carbs. Try to get most of your calories from dense Proteins....they'll stay with you longer. And be sure you don't drink anything for at least an hour after eating....that way your pouch stays full longer.

Are you using a Protein supplement? I drank 2-3 a day for the first few weeks - still use 2 a day every day. .....plump them up in bleder with ice and sometimes LF cream cheese or cotage cheese....sometimes SF Davinci syrups or a little fruit....sometimes a little natural peanutbutter. I have had no hunger pangs at all ...... maybe I'm just lucky but I really attribute it to the good Protein I'm using.

Best wishes to you....

What size band do you have? 1cc in a 10cc band isn't going to do much toward curbing your hunger. 1cc in a 4cc band may not even be enough restriction yet.

I lost my appetite 2 days pre-op and never really gained it back. I get hungry, but not that often. I find myself eating when I'm not hungry just to try and hit base calorie/protein numbers. I have enough restriction that I know when I've eaten something wrong, but I don't have enough (I think) that the band is controlling my portions. It's hard to describe. I feel full very quickly, but if I *wanted* to keep eating, I could.

Dsvader, you need to do the liquid diet because it is for healing your stomach, not weight loss. None of us will starve in a week or two. The reason for the liquid diet is that that your stomach is quiet, and not churning.

As for feeling hungry when you are stressed, you are right! You *are* hungry when you arre stressed. It's a by product of the extra cortisol your body puts out when understress. In normal people, ie. not like me  it will be regulated by other hormones etc.

I know when I am heading into a "High" phase when I'm hungry all the time. In a way, it is "head hunger" for me too... Stupid Pitunia! (laughter) The stress hunger will result in actual body hunger.

Patsy, you will discover that your body is going to start making all sorts of noises you never though you could make. Just because you have a growly tummy doesn't mean that you are hungry, sometimes we make the stranges gurgling and squeeky noises... I tease my husband and tell him those noises are the mating call of the North American Humpback Bandster!

And there was something else I wanted to add, but I've lost it.

Yeah, the head hunger thing. For the first few months my band really quashed head hunger for me, but its crept back in now.

But I dont find it nearly so hard to resist as I once did. Its more now that if someone offered me a piece of cake, I'd sometimes eat it just for the sake of it, but really, most people are like that. I dont think that's a problem or abnormal. But once upon a time I'd be prowling the house looking for stuff to eat, and I'd find it very hard to resist something good, and almost impossible to stop once I started. I dont have so much trouble with that.

I think that's the band but I also think its due to the success I've had so far - it seems worthwhile now to hold out becuase it works!

When you have the next fill make sure that they take out what you have in there so they can see what IS in there. I went 6 weeks thinking that I had 7 ccs in my midband (the docs thought this too) when in actuality I only had 2!!!! No wonder I could eat!!!! That is because my first fill of 5ccs never actually went "in" but they didn't pick up on that.....

So just be sure they check it out to be on the safe side (ie. if they don't do it anyways),.

When I got my first fill, I would have a bowl of Cereal for Breakfast and found by 10:00 I was starving. I changed to having a Protein Bar for breakfast and that solved that problem. Now, for the past 3 nights I have been waking up in the middle of the night hungry. I have never, ever in my life had that happen. I am thinking it may be time for fill number two.

Thank you all for your input to my question. I am going to schedule another fill and discuss some of the things that you suggested. Have a great day and thanks again.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
