For the ladies (birth control question)

Recommended Posts

Good morning you lovely ladies!

Today's annoying Danielle question of the day is......

What did you do for birth control around your surgery? I've been instructed to discontinue forms of birth control like the pill, patch or ring one month prior to surgery. (My surgery target is December.)

I really do not feel like having to deal with a period around this time and originally was just going to use the ring and not do the week out thing to insure I didn't get one. (I've done this before and my PCP says it's fine to do once in awhile.) However, now that I am unable to do that I'm considering doing one round of depo as the nutritionist said that would be fine. (I will clear it with the surgeon prior to getting it.)

My question is what did you guys do? Deal with the period or try to get it to go away for a month?

Thanks and I hope you all have a wonderful day!

I have an IUD, so I should be good! I had it put in last month because I know that I do NOT want to get pregnant for at least 18 months after my surgery. Have you considered trying the IUD?

Forgot to mention that most women have an extremely light period or no period at all! It lasts for up to 5 years but you can take it out earlier than that.

I was deathly afraid of getting a blood clot after surgery. So I stopped taking it 2 mos before surgery and just used condoms. I've actually chosen not to go back on any b.c. so still we r using them. No one in that room will care if u have ur period.. think about all the women who have emergency surgery for whatever reason. Don't worry about it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
