I have the gas x strips. iPad...reading material....anything else? Going shopping tomorrow to stock up on the Clear Liquids, Gatorade, apple, and cranberry juice. Any other suggestions that you wish someone had suggested? Tomorrow is my clear liquid day pre surgery...gonna suck big time....

Lucky you, my clear liquids diet lasted a whole 3 days! As far as the Gas-x strips, make sure you ask your Dr. if you can use them. When my nurse saw me taking them, she slapped my hand and told the Dr. on me lol. He said, there was already gas relief medication in my IV drip and that the majority of the gas that I was feeling wasn't goign to be cured by gas-x strips, only by walking. I brought a heating pad w/ me that kind of helped when the gas pain hit my shoulders. chicken broth brought me some relief, warm stuff feels good going down. And that's about all the "necessities" I can think of. Once you get home, you'll be able to gauge what things you can tolerate. I have a hard time getting pure Water down...but for some reason can do a gatorade..lol.

Good luck to you!

I doubt you'll want to read. When i was in the hospital it was a struggle for me to find the energy to focus on my cell phone long enough to text my friends to let them know I was ok. You'll sleep a lot, maybe have the tv on but probably won't pay attention to it, sleep some more, sip and walk, sip and walk. Make sure you have clean sheets on your bed and a stockpile of dvds. Another tip: strained canned Soup is kind of gross. Have someone run out and get take out Soup for you and strain that. It'll be a lot fresher with a much better flavor. Oh, and get some herbal tea. It feels really good on the tummy.

Good luck!

Have some liquid tylenol on hand at home. I only took my prescription pain medicine once when I got home. After that, tylenol was sufficient - and it was nice to have a clear mind rather than being all groggy from the prescription stuff.

sugar free popsicles were great too - so refreshing to a dry mouth.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
