I Need Some Protein Help

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone, I am 8 days post op, and on a clear liquid diet for 2 more days, then full liquids for 10 and then 10 on mushies.... Anyways I was just hospitalized for pneumonia and pancreatis (means I am experiencing a fair amount of abdominal pain). I got home yesterday but I am having trouble being able to intake enough liquid, and especially cant seem to tolerate my Protein Drinks. I know I wont have any issues once I can start purees but will lack of Protein for the first 20 days have any really negative effects on me?

Thanks for any help

Aw, I am so sorry for all the issues, but I wouldn't think so. You should have the stores to support your body for that long, but it is really important to get the Protein later as your body needs to heal and keep from losing muscle.

Try Isopure PLUS. It is fruit flavored, either grape frost or punch. The flavors remind me of crystal lite flavors. Each 8 ounce bottle has 15 grams of Protein. So if you drink 32 oz of it during the day, you get your 60 grams of Protein. I ordered mine from Amazon and it was shipped directly to my house (in the middle of nowhere). Isopure PLUS is different from the ISOPURE regular product - I can't stand how the regular tastes, but like the PLUS.

If you aren't getting in protein, you are going to feel weak. :( Try to get some in.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
