Problem with getting protein.

Recommended Posts

I am 3 weeks out and doing well except for Protein. I cant stomach the shakes....I've tried multiple. The only protein foods I am allowed to eat are eggs and cottage cheese....which I eat a lot of. Any suggestions?

I have had SO much trouble getting enough Protein in my diet! I have tried ALL KINDS of Protein Drinks, and they taste so BAD, I just can't get them down! BUT I finally found a Protein Powder drink mix that I love! I saw that Unjury was offering a sample packet that included two each of chocolate Splendor, Vanilla, strawberry Sorbet, chicken Soup and Unflavored protein powders. Each packet makes one serving. It was 17.95 for the 10 packets, and came with an instant read food thermometer, and a shaker bottle to mix the powder and liquid in. I have only tasted the Chocolate Classic, But I have to say, I LOVED IT!!! It tasted like chocolate milk to me. I mixed one packet of the powder with 8 ounces of skim milk, and it was SO good. I have NEVER been able to drink a protein powder mix drink before and get the entire serving down. I am so thrilled, because I was starting to worry about my protein intake. I can only eat 4-5 bites of food at each meal, and there is NO WAY I can get my daily protein requirement in 4-5 bites, three times a day. There are 100 calories (5 calories from fat) in each scoop, so if you mix with 8 ounces of skim milk, you are taking in 180 calories, not to bad, and it contains 20 Grams of protein! You might want to give it a try.

Try ricotta cheese. It's similar to cottage cheese . There is a recipe for the ricotta bake in the food forum. Basically, mix in an egg with the ricotta cheese and some mozzarella cheese, and bake it. Then put some marinara sauce on it.

I have not been able to tolerate Protein Shakes since surgery, I couldn't even handle mixing powder in with smoothies so I totally get it. My go-to has always been string cheese. I buy huge packs of it from costco. You can try Greek Yogurt too.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
