Lap banders - Where are you?

Recommended Posts

I keep looking on here to find someone who has had the lap band and are happy with it, but haven't seen much. I see forums to go from that to the sleeve, so maybe I'm just looking in the wrong place.

Frankly, if I had my choice, I would go for the sleeve all the way. But I have already had a gastric bypass and so apparently the sleeve isn't an option for me. My only option is either the ROSE treatment, which I have heard bad things about, or the lap band.

I'd really like to hear some positive things about the lap band, because I am determined to get back down to where I was 18 years ago after having my bypass and so if the band is the only way I can do that it would be good to know that at least someone is having success with theirs!

Good luck with that. The people here who had the band had it removed because the band causes so many problems. I did lose weight with the band but I would have gained it all back because of band problems. I started gaining it back and have my revision to sleeve.

Go to lap band talk.com and you'll find some people who have the band but most of them have not had it long term. There aren't a lot of people out there who still have bands after a few years.

This is just my personal opinion (and no I have never had a band) but I really *wish* the makers of the lapband would market it as TEMPORARY.

Seems like that is exactly what it is....hence why I chose the sleeve. Permanent. People like the fact that the band is "reversible" but sometimes the damage it causes is permanent. When I was in the very beginning of starting my WLS path, I was headed down the Band path, and at my first nutritional counseling visit I told my NUT...I just done *see* myself as 80 years old and still having a device inside of me. I think I knew right then and there that I couldn't go through with the band as my choice.

That being said, I did meet someone at my support group who had bypass and then a band-over-bypass. Maybe you can google that and find some others out there in your same situation. Best of luck to you.

The above website is for lap banders who are currently banded. This website you are reading right now is for the vertical sleeve. HTH

I had the band . In all fairness I had good results until it slipped, twice. The band was a nuisance but when it was positioned properly, and had the " sweet spot" I hadn't too many issues. I lost about a hundred pounds with it. After the slip, though, I developed quick weigh re-gain and severe reflux to where I was waking up in the midlle of the night cooking on acid and having it spill out my nose. It was horrendous. I was just sleeved three days ago and looking forward no longervdealing with the band.

My band never slipped but I was still waking up every night puking up acid and choking. It got to where I was afraid to go to sleep.

Sure don't miss one thing about that band!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
