Am I getting enough protein/fluids

Recommended Posts

Ok, so I was SLeeved on 09/08/11. I am drinking maybe 2 Protein Shakes a day, I make them myself with the Body Fortress Super advanced whey Protein Powder, it's good but boring lol. Ok and I am just eating chicken broth, sugar free pudding and some babyfood and drinking lots of Water. I haven't had really any kind of discomfort other than the soreness from the surgery. I did have gas and I still do but it's not a painful feeling. Anyhow, I just feel like I am not getting enough of what I need, but I have no desire to try anything else and well I have to be on this diet for another week and then I go on a soft puree diet. Also I had questions with the Calcium Citrate...did anyone find some good tasting chewables? as well as Vitamin chewables? I have a hard time if they taste nasty. HELP!!!!

I have been wondering the same thing. How do I know if I am getting enough fluids? I am not near 64 oz, but I am drinking and peeing constantly (TMI)

I'm jealous you are able to consume all that. I am only allowed one Protein shake per day and as many liquids as I want. I don't feel like I am getting enough calories as my shake is 30g of Protein but only 160 calories. This morning my husband bought me a sweet tea from McDonalds not realizing I couldn't drink it, he was trying to be helpful. I filled a 32 oz glass 3/4 with Water and the rest with tea and so far so good. I'm hoping this will make fluids a little easier and give me some additional calories.

I'll be following your thread to see what the more experienced sleevers have to say.

Keep track of your fluids. Some people use the same-sized glass and fill it up the same each time and count the glassfuls, others fill a big container and when it's empty they know how much they have drunk. Dehydration will be reflected in your urine color--you want it to be straw-colored or lighter. If it's yellow, drink more. Insofar as "getting enough of what you need" you are living off your fat stores right now. Yes, your caloric intake is low, but you have thousands and maybe tens of thousands of calories stored in your fat. Your body is going to use that to supplement the calories you take in from food for a long time. I began taking Vitamins and calcium citrate at 2 weeks after surgery. I found a liquid Calcium citrate at Costco.com that tastes good and fits with my low-carb plan, it's called Reviva. Chewy calcium citrate can be gotten from baratric websites like Celebrate but I think they are expensive and full of sugar. I am taking Centrum chewables for vitamins and they are okay if you wash them down with Water after you chew.

This is what my doc and nut has directed me to do. I'm five days post op. Phase II full liquid diet where I can eat anything that rolls off a spoon like milk. My nut wants me to get 75 to 90 grams of Protein, 120 to 130 grams of carbs and 70oz of Fluid a day. I have three "full" liquid meals a day at 8oz plus three Snacks a day at 4oz. In between these meals I sip Water constantly.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
