PCOS patients I need your help

Recommended Posts

My daughter is taking 2000 of metformin for her PCOS BUT she is having trouble getting those pills in since surgery. Do any of you have any suggestions? Our PCP gave her the extended release but was worried that absorption would not occur due to having less stomach. ANY suggestions would be helpful we are open to try anything at this point. THANKS!!!

I quit taking my metformin for my PCOS prior to surgery. I was afraid that it would dump my blood sugar too drastically. It did before the sleeve, so I was worried about what it would do once I was taking in to little food. You are never supposed to crush or break extended release pills. My advice would be to go back to the regular non extended release, and crush them and put them in apple sauce. I hope you find your answer soon.

My surgeon told me to stop taking them as the weight loss would Help sort out the pcos and sure enough 4 months out and my cycle is like clockwork! I'm not saying your daughter should just stop them but maybe talk to your doc about it!

Good luck to your daughter! X x.

My surgeon took me off mine 2 days before surgery and told me not to take it ever again. He said I shouldn't need it ever again. My PCP agreed with him and took it off my chart.

I take 1000mg of Metformin twice a day for PCOS . . . and they are scored in the middle. I just break it in half and take it in two swallows. Mine is not extended-release, so it's okay to break them in half. I must admit that taking my Metformin is pretty much the most difficult thing I swallow all day . . . I am 3 weeks out from my surgery.

I was also taking Metformin 1000 twice a day. My dose was cut in half the day I started the 2 week pre-op diet. My last Metformin was taken the day before surgery. I am still taking 15 Actos daily, by my PCP said we would probably stop it at my next appointment the end of Sept. My fasting glucose readings have averaged 107 since about 2 months post op.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
