FLMA or Leave of Absence question?

I totally agree yet still find it weird how much attention your coworkers pay you and you don't even notice. I can't tell you what my coworkers are wearing 3 min after they're out of sight but some of the hens in my office can tell you EVERYTHING about ANYONE!

Dreyonalds,

I am told that a week should be suitable. You have to make sure you are slowly and surely incorporating excersize in when you can. I have been told this helps with speedy recovery- getting as active as you can, as soon as you can but keepin in mind not to overdo it.

Tell them you are having surgery for a hiatal hernia then you have to go on this liquid diet for abot 6 weeks. That should about cover it.

I am so grateful to have a great work place and haven't kept any secrets. All my co workers are very supportive and that helps a lot. Of course, they have seen the years of illness from being overweight so I am sure they are glad as much as I am. I know not every one is a forturnate, just wanted to say, there are still some great places to work in this country. :-)

I am fairly new to my job and should be getting my date soon. I was worried about this as well. I am not taking paid leave, nor am I using vacation time, or trying to use the FMLA. So I am glad someone posted this. I don't want everyone I work with to know (and they will). I would just like to leave it at "I have been scheduled for surgery and I will supply you with any documentation you may need". Luckily, I only work weekends so if I take almost a full 3 weeks off that is only 6 missed days of work. Good luck to you!

I am trying to go through FMLA at work. I have been working with my current employer close to 2 years, so it should not be a problem. That being said they are giving me a little bit of a hard time about it. I swear to whatever higher power there might be if they drag their feet on this, I will give them a piece of my mind.

I have only been with my job for 8 months and am having surgery next month. Does this mean I am not eligible for FMLA?

You have to be on your job for 12 months, or meet 1250 hours worked.

I know I'm reviving an old board but in the hopes of reducing the number of threads i figured i'd ask here. I started my job as a temp from another firm. They made me permanent on 4/2/12. My plan is to have surgery in or around November. So I figure the first six months i worked here are out of bounds. However, people keep talking about 1 year at the job OR 1250 hours. I think I may just get in the 1250 hours by October. Does this mean I may qualify or does it not matter since I've not met the year to date requirement?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
