Went for my consult, surgery booked!

Recommended Posts

Hi Gang!

Well, I did it! I went for my consult on Thursday to see Dr. Mumford. I booked surgery for August 31st. He was one of the nicest, empathetic people I have ever met! His nurse Marie was so lady like and friendly too.

They let my Sister, Husband and Niece all pile into the room with me, bless them. My husband, who had reservations, was really impressed and is convinced now that I'm doing the right thing. I paid the $200 consult, $500 deposit, and I bought the Optifast.

Stressing about the money now, but will tweak the budget as much as I can!

I told him about my work problem and doctor's notes, and he said that he would write a letter on his general surgery practice letter head, and would say that i needed the day off. period. ( I have vacation booked after that)

I have to buy a blender, too, as I havent had one since about 10 years ago when one of my teenagers (they're grown and gone now) tried to make a milkshake out of just ice cream, nothing else! and burnt out the motor. Little bugger.

I don't have a family doctor, so now I have to find walkin clinic that will do the physical.

Sorry for rambling, but I'm stoked!:biggrin1:

Oh btw, I have to change my weight ticker, I weight 230, not 225:tired Oh well.

Hey Neenagh...that is AWESOME!!!! I'm glad your hubby is really supportive; it makes ALL the difference... I'm lucky enough to have one of those too...supportive in ALL things!

So...what was your original goal that the doc thought was unrealistic? Do tell....was it higher or lower than 150?

That's good to know. My doc didn't really talk to me about goal. Just to pick a number, I picked 150. (I'm 5'5"). So, I guess that sounds about right. You and I also started around the same weight...(I was 273).

I don't ever see myself going below 150. However, if I look and feel fine at 160 or even higher...then I'll be happy and will just go for maintenance rather than further loss.

When I was dieting thru Dr. Bernstein, they were trying to tell my that my goal should be 135. I said "ok, but i'll be dead", the skinniest i'v ever been is 160, so i was quite happy that the doc upped my goal weight!

LOL....okay...I was just wondering based on your goal how tall you were. Where did the figure come from? Did the doc help you set it? I guess I"m just wondering why 147 and not 150 or 145.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
