odd sensatios and after taste

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I am 18 days post-op and I have lost 30 lbs. I am completely stoked, but I have some concerns that I have not had my surgeon address yet. I have this really wierd sensation in the center of my chest. Sometimes it feels like a tickle and other times it feels like something is stuck there. Also I have the nastiest after taste whenever I consume anything. Kinda taste like rubber/plastic taste. Please if any body has anything that might ease my mind right now, share.

Ah, the after taste. Yes. For me, was convinced it was ketosis. Acetone is in your mouth and it makes everything taste funky. Terrible, actually. I talked to my NUT and she suggested I increase my good carbs, so I started eating cooked veggies. This will knock you out of ketosis.

I was only consuming 10-20 grams a day before, but now am up around 40-60. It has made a difference in my energy level as well.

Yep, I agree that the aftertaste is likely ketosis. It's gross! It makes me feel like my tongue is burnt.

Not sure about the pain in the chest though, I'd definitely call the doc about that.

Yeah, the taste sux, but like they said, up your carbs and that will go away. As for the chest pain, its you being full or rather too full. When I pushed my sleeve and ate too much I would get that feeling right in the center of my chest and it would not go away until I digested.

I am having that feeling in the center of my chest also. I think I will do only liquids tomorrow to see if that helps.

When I had that feeling, it was too much acid. I talked to my doc and he said to up my Nexxium to twice a day for 5 days. It got rid of the problem. Now I get a pain in my chest if I overeat my sleeve or take too big a drink. It is a different kind of lump than the acid lump though. The overeating lump seems to have more weight to it.

Try antacids

It's off topic but anyone know a good treatment for this for my son?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
