1 week old bandster with questions only you can answer!

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone:

I was banded one week ago today. :clap2: I had my follow up visit yesterday and was down 13 pounds :clap2: (I know water!) . While at that visit I discussed with my doctor that I was sipping as little as I could and still getting burping and a dull ache in my chest. He thought it might still be a lot of swelling. Well, today I started mushies and can't figure it out, but all of a sudden I can take a regular sip of Water. Is this normal??????? I was told to sip sip sip, but it goes down now with no problem. Could there be something wrong? :nervous

Also, I ate applesauce today for Breakfast (I was afraid to try anything else) but then Lentil Soup for lunch and pastina with an egg mixed in it for dinner (although I only ate about 3/4 of it). How do I get Protein in?? The doctors office never mentioned Protein shakes. I have them but don't they count as a meal??

Thanks for your help.

Cathy

Congrats on the weight. I do believe it was swelling that went down, I felt the same way. You want the liquids to go down with no problems.

You can try the Protein from powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury everyone mentions to get Protein in. I use Isopure shakes in the AM and eat the rest of the day. Or do 1/2 of one in the AM and 1/2 for a snack later in the day. They have 40 grams of protein. You do need to count the calories, but they have zero carbs, and taste really good when you blend it with cold coffee and ice. (both the chocolate and vanilla ones)

Welcome to band land! You will do fine!

Yes, it's a magical ride...one day you feel tight and the next day you're loose as a goose! It's normal I would say. Especially since you're still healing...I agree with above, that swelling right after surgery can be finicky.

You should be using Protein Drinks. . be careful of high calories. The numbers I was given was 70-100 gr of Protein a day.

The doc had me use Carnation Instant Breaksfast, made with Skim milk, Boost or SlimFast; like that I could get them easily. These do count as meals and liquid (I was to go for about 64oz. daily), but I found that they filled me enough to the snack time most often until meal time again. You can't go only liquid but you don't want to try to eat to soon. eggs are good as well as cheese products and when you move to meats, eat it first.

Definatly consult your doc. we all have different recomendations on what were sposed to eat n drnk etc. but you should definatly be getting some protien in! I use no sugar added carnation instant Breakfast with beneprotien added to it. im still in mushies stage but am doing both full liquid and mushies just because i wanted to be careful. so i drink up in the am as i am not really able to eat a whole lot in the am. and do mushies for meals mostly meats, and then i do cream of wheat with beneprotien at night. so we all have what works for us. i was really concerned about how slowly i was losing and was really restricting calories, i was also very depressed, wear, and had no energy. so instead of counting i am watching what im eating and trying not to eat high calorie food, measure my portions and count my protien. since i have been doing that i feel so much better!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
