Hey George. I haven't been on this site in awhile as I'm 15 months post op. but I saw your post and could relate to feeling super nervous. However, you'll be fine and in good hands. I had my surgery done in Tijuana, Mexico, by myself, and had never been put under before. That was SCARY!!! But, it went so smoothly, little pain, textbook recovery and I still have restriction today. My best advice though, is not to waste the 6 month initial honeymoon period. This is where you will lose most of your weight, so stick to the plan. After that, it will be easier to cheat and weight will start to stabilize. Good luck to you and the rest!

Thank you so much for sharing your story with me I can imagine how scary it would be to go to Mexico by yourself! That took a lot of guts. I have my mom and sister with me and I'm still nervous hearing stories like yours make me feel a little more comfortable and make me realize am doing the right thing. I am going to work my tail off for the next six months So I can make the most out of that time.

Ahhh fellow Bostonians! I was petrified of the anesthesia as well. Over before you know it though. I'm 11 days out now and really feel good. Still on just Protein Shakes but a lot of energy. Surgery day itself was not bad. Not a lot of pain but just VERY sleepy. 1st day was horrible. Nausea was pretty uncontrollable. 2nd day though I felt great, better everyday since. Hang in there and good luck on your journey!

Just stumbled upon this thread, and I was so happy to find all of these wonderfully supportive Bostonians! So far I've been having a hard time finding us northeastern folk on VST :)

I live in Winchester and I'm pre-surgery with Dr. Julie Kim at Mt. Auburn. I can't tell you how RELIEVED I am to read all of your wonderful posts about her, and Mt. Auburn in general. But anywhoo...just wanted to say hi and hello to everyone, and thanks for sharing all the great information.

P.S. Best of luck George! You'll do great :)

I just left a job in the bldg next to China Sky in Winchester, actually! You will both do great, Dr Kim and the Mt Auburn program are FIRST CLASS!

From 340 to 228 (down 112lbs) in just 6mo and I am the picture of health inside & out. I wish you the best of luck, but you won't need it. You are in excellent hands!

A little over an hour I believe. Don't recall much. They said they were giving me something to relax in the holding area and that was all she wrote! No memory of going into OR. Don't even remember waking up in recovery. First memory is being in my room telling my husband to go home because I was too sleepy to have any kind of conversation. They got me up in a few hours to walk. No pain really, just sleepy.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
