Starting mushy phase today.....

Recommended Posts

I was told I could start my mushy phase today. For Breakfast I had an egg over-medium and I cut it up really good. No problems. I could only eat about half of it though. I kept the rest and ate it about an hour and a half later. Success! For lunch I had a 1/4 cup of chicken salad that was VERY well blended but I could only eat about a 1/4 of that. 1) I am scared to death of moving on to this stage. and 2) I got full really fast. I felt that one burp that I now know is my limit so I stopped. I have the rest to snack on for the rest of the day. I just want to say how excited I am that this went as well as it did. I am SO excited.

I was scared to do this stage too. It was the first real food that we have since surgery and I think we are afraid of failure.

Just take it slow and don't eat too fast. Chew it to liquid and wait a minute or two in between bites and you will know by that time if it will be alright to take another. After a few meals, you will get over your fears and branch out to try other things. I am glad that chicken salad worked for you on your first try. I could not eat it until 4 weeks out. I was too swollen.!!

Try some thinned refried Beans with a little melted cheese. YUMMY!!

KElly :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
