Embarrassing question

Recommended Posts

I am somewhat embarrassed to ask this question, but am notgetting good answers from the doctor, or my local support group. I know I can trust my on-line support groupto help me - you guys are great!

Has anyone had any problems with vomiting while having aBM? I am 8 weeks post op, and I havebeen having dry-heaves with BMs for the past 3 weeks. At first, I did not associate the vomitingwith going to the bathroom (I thought I might be reacting to foods like milk, toosugary a drink, an oatmeal-raisin cookie, etc.).

I asked my surgeon and he suggested it has to do with cramps/strainingand the body pushing things up, instead of out. I accept this explanation to apoint, but it happens when I am NOT straining – these are liquid stools.

Anyone else have this problem? Any suggestions?

Thanks!

I don't think I have heard of that at all on this board, but maybe someone will come forard. Question: how often do you have a BM and is there any dry heaving at any other time?

I am now having a BM about 2x/week - which is very hard for me to get used to, since I had IBS prior to surgery, and was going to the bathroom on average 2x/day!

No dry-heaving any other time. But, I don't throw up every time . . . this morning, I had a fairly normal trip to the bathroom!

It might have something to do with eating too soon before sitting down for it. I am assuming that you hadn't eaten yet this morning.

Possibly . . . it usually happens in the afternoon, and once in the evening. I'll keep an eye on the timing with eating.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
