I guess I am 6 days post-op. My surgery was last Tuesday. I feel ok except for the weakness and I really feel dizzy! I am walking around the house like I have had about 6 drinks too many. I called the nutritionist yesterday as I felt like I was not able to get in enough calories. Yesterday was about 687 and the day before that 569 and lower from there back to surgery. I am doing the best I can but I just don't seem to have a place to fit more. Has anyone else experienced this? Any suggestions?

I had the exact same thing after surgery. Do you take blood pressure meds??? If so, you may need to see your primary dr. to come off them as you may not need them any more. That was a problem for me.

I also was SEVERLY anemic after surgery and that was a big reason I was so dizzy!! A simple blood test will show that.

It is worth a trip to your dr. to see what is going on. :D

No I am not on blood pressure meds so I don't think that can be a problem. Anemic... maybe.. but don't think so.

Even though you aren't on BP meds...I agree with Kelly...that's what it sounds like and you need to have your BP checked. You have described low BP symptoms. I'm sure they aren't exclusive to that...but it is what I experienced (especially going from a sit or squat to a stand...woooooooooo). Vertigo will effect you even in a horizontal position (i.e., in bed and you roll over and the whole room spins). Then you may have an inner ear infection.

At 6 days out, you shouldn't be worried about caloric intake at all. Right now, staying hydrated should be your #1 priority. Dehydration can cause a ton of issues, including low blood pressure, dizziness, fainting, and slower healing. At 6 days out, I don't think I was taking in 100 calories, much less what you're at. Right now your tummy is healing. What did your surgeon suggest?

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
