Overwhelmed and want to cry......

Recommended Posts

I had to take 10 deep breaths per hour using a gadget that made me take long, slow deep breaths. I found that this worked the gas out of my chest really quickly. I had to blow out all my air, then inhale for a count of 12, expanding my lungs as far as I could, then slowly exhale. (I had to work up to a 12 count.) Once I started doing that, I no longer had the bad gas pains. Good luck to you! Every day gets better.

First off((((((((((((( virtual huG))))))))))))))) Second thing for you, accept this is normal and move on. You are tired and all the aches and pains and changes are wearing on you.

This too shall pass, Breath in , Breath out, Move on.

Keep your mind off of it, burp and pass gas when you can. This will get better!

I didn't have too much trouble with gas pain - I know for others it's been awful though. The second night I was in the hospital I couldn't sleep from it. Having a heating pad really made a huge difference, as did having someone around to do "karate chops" on my back. Other than that, just walking it off was the only way! Hope you feel better soon, just take it a day at a time. Or an hour at a time if that's too much! Don't get overwhelmed, this part will be over before you know it. ;)

I had surgery on July 22 and I awoke to horrible gas pain in the location you mentioned, upper left chest and side. I felt as if a Mac truck had hit me. In the hospital they gave me pepcid complete via IV. Once I was home I took Gas X chewables a couple of times and I'm to take a pepcid complete chewable twice a day as prescribed by surgeon. The Gas X and pepcid complete have helped tremendously but the pain only lasted for a day or two.

I really hope you feel better soon. Oh, mint tea as mentioned above is wonderful as well as peppermint tea.

My surgeon warned me of the shoulder/chest pain as transient pain. I can also identify to the gas pains. They feel like labor pains to me...they start, grow, roll, last a few seconds and leave. I have to hold my breathe they hurt so much. I just try and breathe through them and hope things get better soon (I am 6 days post op). Hope you feel better!!!

I had surgery on Friday too. Terrible left chest pains sent me to the ER two days before my flight. Tests negative, but area over heart sure hurt. Declined to stay in hopital for more tests as I would have had to forfeit my flight. My surgeon, Dr. Aceves said to bring ER tests with me and would retest upon arrival. Test again negative. But he said they would use special heart drugs during surgery. Didn't get and epidural as my heart slowed to 52 beats a minute when they tried to administer it. My surgery lasted almost 2 hrs. Bad gas and pain like you describe. Had brought tons or GasX strips and chewies AND a bottle of Tums. Took some mild Lorazepam, and ALL the pain meds I could get. Was depressed Sat and Sun. Started to burp and fart and things are a lot better now on day four. Hang in there. Write me if I can help.

I had my surgery on Friday, July 29th. the nurses bragged about me to the next shift and so on.....I was uesp walking, I had already defecated, etc. My only issue then and now is the pain in my chest, in my left shoulder and on my left side. It was that way at the hospital and now at home. I am a sipping fool but sometimes I feel that I am going too fast even though I'm sipping. My gas pain is so HORRIFIC that I just want to cry. Is anyone else experiencing this? Had experienced it? How long does it last? I am out walking, trying to stay mobile but also rest at the same time but I am NOT getting any relief. Please help my fellow sleevers! I'm begging for relief.

Well by now I hope your feeling better. I had my surgery on July 27th, and the same thing with me. Very easy at 1st, nurses bragging because I was doing so well and came home the next day. Then the gas started, and it was horrible, couldn't burp either. What helped me was the gasx chewables, but also you might want to think about whether its possible that you could be lactose intolerant right now. When I switched to the lactose free milk and other products my gas pains stopped completely and I feel great. Worth a shot. Good luck to you.

Hey

1. Take chewable gasx

2. make sure you are taking an acid pill (really helped for the first couple of months)

3. karate chops - someone pounding on your back - think about burping baby - really seem to help me.

4. my one week apt. with doctor.....i remember complaining to him about the shoulder pain...it got better right after that

5. drink drink, drink............walk, walk, walk............my doc said stay hydrated worry about the Protein starting at week 2-3

Hormones are going to be all over the place since anestesia and big surgery...........breathe deep...........you are going to get through this

Thanks everyone! Now on to my next questions...........when does the diarrhea go away? and when do I stop feeling the gurgling in my chest? I can't tell if it's still the gas or if it's hunger. I know my mind is playing with me - telling me that it wants to eat. Hey, I'll be honest....I would love a mushy bowl of refried Beans right now. Probably wouldn't help the gas problem but it sure sounds tasty. I would like anything with substance.

I am staying with a Mexican family for my last few days of my week (read recovery) in Mexicali. La Madre makes re-fried Beans every day or so along with fresh chicken broth for me. I couldn't resist and dipped my finger into them. Ahhh, sooo good. Now I have a little twice a day well diluted with fresh chicken broth. It is heaven. I know that I will probably go to WLS hell for it, but until I chuck or the pain gets bad...

I am on my fifth day out now and I can swallow very well. I think that things are going well. My belly still hurts but energy and mood are good. To answer your question about diarrhea; my #2's are very few and far between and very watery.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
