So CAL Bandsters

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm in La Habra . . I started my nutrition counseling in December, and have my psych consult next week. Then they will re-submit for authorization for my surgery. I was declined the first time. (But approved for the education and the consult) My doctor's office says don't worry - that's just how it goes so I'm not worried.

I love this forum though, so far I've been lurking and reading for about a week and I have learned a LOT!

I appreciate all of you and value your wisdom. I don't have any questions - YET - but I'm sure I will.

Just wanted to introduce myself and say a quick hello!

Deb

Hi Deb! Welcome to the forum! I'm pretty new here myself, but I've already found some great people to talk to. I'm in Hawthorne by the way, so we're pretty close! I hope your insurance agrees this time - I'm waiting on the same thing.

LBT IS A GREAT PLACE FOR SUPPORT AND EDUCATION..

This thread isn't that active - most pple post to the thread for the month they were banded in - age and some other..

If any of you have any questions - I will try and answer - but first and foremost - ALWAYS follow your doctors instructions and not that of others - each doc had different programs..

Congrats on being banded - and for those who aren't - I can tell you I love my band and Me for the work it takes to get to goal...

Hello Michelle and Tami I am also in Riverside and got banded on 12/15/08 by Dr. Coon. I am doing ok. Just seems like the weight is coming off alot slower than so many other people that I read of this thread I wonder if I am doing anything wrong. I am eating between 1200 and 1500 cal a day. I am working out about 30 min a day. Any advice?

I am in Oceanside ( San Diego area ) I would love to join a group. I am just getting started

Hi AmyUSMCwife,

I'm also from Oceanside, and I'm also in the UCSD program. Right now, I'm in month 5 of my 6-month supervised diet (required by my PPO), and I'll have my final "weigh-in" on Feb. 9--then UCSD will resubmit the paperwork to my insurance. By the way, I'm very impressed with the UCSD program & staff.

Best of luck on your weigh loss journey!

Welcome to you all

Lilmisscarell - doesn't your doctor offer support group... Mine does at Desert Hospital in Palm Springs - if you are in Riverside area - I think that might just be a tad to far to drive..

mroseharvey - you have a lower bmi so you won't lose as fast plus you should most likely switch up your calories to 1000 -1200 a day - in my weight loss phase - I kept my calories between 800-1200 varied them daily and worked out 30-45 min 4-5 days a week and never hit a plateau..

First of all - take the word HOPE out of your vocabulary - replace it with WILL - Posititive affirmations

You want to know the secert - it's to focus on eating healthy - allow for treats occaissionally and exercise - this has never been a diet for me - this has been about a lifetime lifestyle change in my eating and exercise habits - I eat low fat - limited sugars most sf - and some carbs/starches... I exercise...

BF - Weigh Control oatmeal 160 c - Dannon Lite n Fit Yogurt with 1/4 cup granola 150 c - Eggbeaters omelet 1/2 c with a little cheese 100 c

Lunch - for me it's usually left overs from the night before (fish or turkey meat loaf - chicken etc & a veggie) - plus I make what I call 1 pot wonders on sunday nights and then I have lunch for the week - a one pot wonder is just stuff thrown in a pan and cook - example - ground turkey - onion bell pepper garlic zuchinee tomatoe sauce - or chicken bell pepper onion garlic - whatever veggie your like and Tomato sauce - you got the idea?? 1 cup is my portion size - I go out to lunch maybe once every couple of weeks - and have a few lean cusines in the fridge for emergencies - but I don't like processed foods much rather have home cooked foods

Dinner - I eat tons of fish - I still eat fish most nights - I eat catfish (and it's good pple always turn up their noses at it but it's not as fish as salmon) Salmon - Talipia - Chicken - Turkey meat loaf - or one pot wonder - veggies with I can't believe it's not butter spray and 1/4-1/2 cup of rice

4 oz of Protein - 1/4 to 1/2 c veggies and then 1/4-1/2 c rice.. (sometimes have tatoes or Pasta instead)

Snacks - 100 cal popcorn snack pack - sf fudgecicles - sf dark choc pudding - LF string cheese - fruit - sf yogurt..

yes. they do. but Im having my surgery in LA at Cedar Sinai and dont want to drive out there just for support meetings. too far. looking for something closer

My GF had surgery there too (bypass Dr Philip French last name) and they do have a support group here in the Desert for his pple.. So ck w/them they might know of one in your area...

For me LBT has been my support - my Lucky #7 gang and my 50+ gang - LBT is open 24/7 - I went to mine once - it's like 25 miles away - I like lbt better - but some pple do better in a group setting -

Thank you IndioGirld for taking the time and sharing your meals with me. Well I have to admit that I am eating pretty much what you are. So that makes me very happy. Thank you again. And your right....I will DO this. Was your weight loss about 1-2 lbs per week or was it more? May I ask what kind of exercise you do and for how long? You are true inspiration to me. Rose

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
