Not Picking Up Puppy Post Op

Recommended Posts

Ok so I figured the title would be a fun one! I had my appointment today with the bartiatric dietician, this to me was the most important one because she literally spent an entire two hours with me going over different types of foods my eating habits etc.. Its so amazing not being judged by people and I can sit there and not feel fat. So she spent the entire going over everything with me. Looking forward to this surgery! They even provide you with a cute set of plates and silverwear after surgery!

So this is the part that will suck for me, I have an amazing dog named Buttercup she is the love of my life! She is a six year old partially blind pure bread Yorkie who is the best! Well she weighs 11 pounds and for a month after surgery I cant pick her up :( thatt what stinks.

Find a way to build steps( use pillows or cushions maybe) for her to get onto the couch or cahir so she can sit in your lap.

Wow...that sounds pretty drastic! I have a 23 pound 11 month old and my Doc said not to lift him for 4-5 days which was sooo hard! I could hold him though. I'm two weeks post op and now lift him with no problems. But, I know you have to follow Dr's orders..however..maybe he will lift that restriction if you're doing well with your recovery :)

Wow, so I'm not the only one dreading that part? Lol, I have 3 dogs, including a Jack Russell, Blue Heeler mix, and a Great Dane, and 2 cats. This is going to be VERY difficult. I intend to keep at least one pillow draped across my stomach any time I am laying down, just in case someone decides they want to play and kiss, lol. Oh, and maybe walk around with a pillow on my stomach in case someone wants to jump up, too. lol

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
