Can someone help with a low carb diet?

Can someone point me to example menus or other suggestions how to stay under 40 G of carbs per day?

Under 40 means nearly all meat and very small quantities of carb-containing foods. Here's a typical menu for me at six months:

Breakfast: coffee w/half & half 1 gm Protein, 5 gm carb

Snack: Slice of honey-roasted turkey breast: 9 gm Protein, 3 carbs.

Lunch: 3 oz shrimp 17 gm protein, 0 carb

Snack: Protein shake 30 gm protein, 5 carb

dinner 2 oz beef top loin 20 gm protein, 0 carb.

This totals 77 gm protein, 19 gm carbs. My Calcium citrate has 10 gms of carb, so now I'm at 29 gms. It's fresh cherry season and I love them so before bed I'll have 8 cherries=6 carbs, putting me at 35 for the day. Sometimes I sub scallops for the Protein Shake. Most days I eat between 600-800 calories, never more. If I am too low on calories for the day I might have some dry-roasted almonds--nearly all fat, a little protein and no carbs at all.

I am pre-op. The nutritionalist wasn't sure if I needed to do the liver shrinking diet in advance of having the band out, but suggested i do a diet that is 30-40 G of Carb. I don't really know how to eat that way, but I eat considerably more then a person who is already sleeved. Sorry I should have said more!

Then it's the same diet, just the quantity is greater. meat, seafood, fish, and Protein shakes-oh, and lettuce, cucumbers, all those mostly-water vegetables. Try sparkpeople.com to track, they have a huge database of foods and will tell you the nutrition info. It's free, too.

Here is my menu for the day

Breakfast: 2 eggs and 1 slice bacon

snack at 10 : fresh peach

lunch : 1 can (5oz) white chicken breast in Water

1 tblspn mayo

sprinkle of Mrs Dash

Snack @ 3: fresh plum

Dinner: 3 oz cooked pork tenderloin

3 - 4 oz brussel sprouts

bedtime snack : 1 string cheese (frigo light)

All of that is 38 grams of carbs for the day. . . you can also use myfitnesspal.com to help track your carbs. . .

Drink tons of Water as well. . . . good luck

B: 2 egg whites and 1 egg made into a mushroom omelet with a sprinkle of low fat cheese or 2 egg whites with 2 strips turkey bacon

L: 2 pieces of deli meat rolled up or 1/2C cottage cheese or greek yogurt

s: low fat string cheese or a couple shrimp or 1/2 C cottage cheese or pepperoni bites (microwave some pepperoni and soak up the rendered fat with paper towel, put a tiny dollop of sauce and use a low fat string cheese sliced up to top, microwave again until cheese it melted)

D: salad with grilled chicken, grilled chicken or shrimp with a green veggie, shrimp kabob or small portion of whatever the family is having that is low carb

^^^That's fairly typical and usually ends up around 700-800 calories and less than 30g carbs.

I add a shake in if my calories or Protein are too low for the day

      Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

      Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
