I'm 9 days post op. I'm only allowed liquids, and I'm going nuts. I just want to eat something. I ate 4 popsicles yesterday because its the closet thing I can eat. I know this is probably just head hunger, but I'm going nuts. I just want to cry.:(

I'm pre-op and I already miss eating. I don't want to stuff my face...I just want to chew something. The good news is that you're 9 days out so you're much closer to eating than I am. Just keep your eyes on the prize. :)

I'm so sorry. I can't imagine. I'm 8 days out and I'm already of soft foods. It's so much easier now for me. I don't have that slightly hungry feeling that I had the whole week on liquids. How long before you can advance your diet?

YOU CAN DO IT!!!! I drank lots of hot tea and diet hot chocolate which helped. I also cooked some pot roast and had just the gravy from the meat, which I remember tasting so good. I know it is very hard to be on liquids, but you have to protect your new tummy! Trust me, it is all worth it!

This is the hardest part, but you can do it!!!!!!! The time right after surgery is the hardest, but it will pass and you will be able to eat again. It happens at a different pace for each person, but it will happen.

Hang in there, you are almost done!

Thank you everyone for your support. I'm really trying. I don't want my husband coming home to see me stomping my feet in the middle of the floor throwing a fit, crying "I'm Hungry". LOL

You will do it! I'm sorry you can't have anything more than liquids until August 1. Maybe make a slushy with "larger ice chunks" and chew the ice - that might help. :)

I am only on day 6 post op and am on full liquids, Protein shakes, creamed Soups, thinned oatmeal or cream of wheat, ff pudding. Maybe you should try some really thin oatmeal, it made me feel normal again and got to chew something. Good luck!

Try egg drop Soup. When good, it is very flavorful, and I found it very satisfying at first. Also something to chew (egg threads). I drank 3-4 quarts of it before soft foods.

You can do it. I was only allowed popcicles for more than 8 weeks. When will you be able to eat? From experience, the idea of eating is much more attractive than actually eating. Remember, once you can eat to go nice and slow and you'll be amazed at how quickly you're full. For me there is a wide disconnect on how I used to eat and how I can now (even though its just Phase III foods so far). Good luck!!!

I KNOW the feeling all to well. I had my surgery Monday, July 18th 2011 and at first it was pretty good with only liquid because I didn't really have any desire to eat but now that I'm a few days in and after seeing all these commercials while I'm "resting" has made things much worse. I was told I could start my puree diet after six days. Put keep your head held high! There was a reason you decided to make this major life change! I don't know about you but I was told I could suck on hard candies that were sugar free. I don't know if that interests you but I know those Werthers hard caramels come in sugar free. I don't know if you had a pre op diet like I did but they had these amazing jellos that had TONS of Protein which will make you seem hungry enough.

I know the pain of head hunger. These pizza commercials will be the death of me. But we are strong, beautiful women. We can get through this. :)

All my love

& Support!

Taylor

So sorry sweetie I think I would be going crazy! Hopefully you can find something to do that you are passionate about to keep your mind off of food. Crazy thing to be able to do when before that is all we were thinking about :( Hope it gets better for you sending hugs and prayers your way....

Look at it this way, that first bite of that scambled egg ( when you get to have it) will be like heaven. To this day, or since I was able to get on solid foods, that is the most satisfying food. That was the first non-liquid I was able to have and I was so looking forward to it. The one thing that you will notice are the foods you have been craving since you have been on your liquid diet are just not satisfying anymore. Anything sweet, bread, Pasta, pizza or anything heavy, they are just not the same anymore. I did not think I would ever not want pasta. I have eaten more chicken and turkey the last few weeks than I have in my life. Hang in there, your liquid diet is almost over and you will see what I am talking about, your cravings will change. Let us know how that egg is once you can eat.:D

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
