I am 9 days into the pre-op diet and I have found as long as I have my Protein drinks frequently and don't wait because I am busy, etc. I feel pretty good. I did have headaches and I felt shaky the first few days. Not having real food can put anyone in a very irritable place! I wouldn't worry about that, it is normal. The headaches and the shaky feelings are gone and I am feeling pretty good now. The busier I was the less on focused on the fact I wasn't eating the better I feel. I made myself busy with friends and projects. It helped me to stop thinking about how much I didn't like the pre-op diet and wishing for carbs. Hope that helps! Now it isn't so hard to see/be around food. I am fine not having food.

Hope that helps!

I'm on day three of the pre-op diet too. Just this morning I realized that I haven't had any headaches or jitters. I started not drinking with my meals a while ago and I think that may help. Froedtert Health tells us not to drink anything 30 before a meal and nothing until 30 minutes after a meal. It helps satisfy the hunger and lets your body process the Proteins. Monday I drank Water with dinner and a couple hours later, I was very hungry!! Last night I fought through the little bit of hunger I had by keeping busy until bed time.

I am on day three as well and i'm choosing to do 3 weeks pre-op. I want to be ultra prepared and not shock my body more than it already will be. Good Luck to all!

I feel you. I'm on dat 3 and I'm so irritated. But I know that it's for a good reason. Just got to think positive thoughts.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
