Acid reflux 3 weeks post op

Recommended Posts

I was wondering if anyone else has acid reflux after surgery? Im 3 weeks post op but still having acid reflux. Prilosec OTC takes care of it but I have to take it everyday. If I miss a day the acid returns with a vengeance! Does anyone know how long this can last? Should I be worried that it's lasting this long. I'm only able to drink liquids. Even if I have a yogurt I feel the acid so I'm still sticking with liquids. Sometimes it would be so bad it would make me gag and dry heave.

i am in the beginning process of my pre op diet but ive done a lot of research. i dont think its anything to be worried about. if im not mistaking, you have to stay on the meds for a while before you stop getting it. id say, ask your dr how long it will last but im sure its much longer than where you are now.

maybe buy a pill box with days of the week?

or set an alarm in your phone reminding you to take them?

place it next to your tooth brush or hair brush?

im sorry :/

these are the only things i could think of.

good luck, let us know what your doc says.

My doctor puts everyone on an acid blocker for 3 mos post-op. I tried to stop at the three-month mark but acid woke me up at night so I started taking it again. I'll try to get off again at six months. He or she should have told you that it might happen, it's very common after this surgery.

I am preop and my surgeon stated I will have to take Prilosec for the rest of my life which I have been taking for years anyway so it isn't a big deal for me. Like the others have said, you best check with your doctor and don't be surprise if Prilosec or some type of PPI becomes your daily routine. Good Luck.

I have had acid reflux for years even before surgery. I have taken Prilosec rx for the past year. I am now on a dissolving previcid and I don't think it works as well as the Prilosec. I have had such acid where I am throwing dry heaves and then up comes the acid, and have a sour stomach. I can't wait to get back on the Prilosec. I know I am not supposed to but have eaten a few crackers to soak up the acid to keep from vomiting. It seems to settle down with just two crackers. I am also 3 weeks out. Started the crackers a few days ago. unsure.gif

I'm 4 months out and continue to have very bad acid reflux. My Dr. said that eating too much or too quickly can result in pain like acid reflux but that was really caused by food backing up into the esophagus. Eating less, eating slowly and drinking a lot of Water, as is recommended, reduces the pain a lot but not entirely. Acidic drinks make it worse (no duh) and certain foods (pistachio nuts, which may "stick").

The acid is totally normal. I never had reflux or heartburn in my life until surgery. It lasted about 4 months then subsided. Don't eat too close to going to bed or it will wake you up! Now, after a year it's completely gone.

Hi I'm one o thelucky ones and stopes taking my acid tablets after only 2 weeks and I have not had any acid since. But my poor mum who was sleeved 2 weeks befor me has terrible acid reflux and is still

Taking the meds for it. We eat alot of the same things so I think everyone is so individual.

Try drinking a small amount of milk as this helps my mum.

Hoping you feel better soon. X x x

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
