Will my stomach ever stop hurting?

Recommended Posts

I was sleeve on 6/30, so a bit over a week ago. No matter what I put into my stomach - even plain Water - makes it hurt. The Protein shakes I'm supposed to be subsiding on? They hurt worst of all. Is this going to stop anytime soon or did I just make a huge mistake with this surgery? sad.gif I've been posting on another message board and no one else has this problem more than a week out.

Thanks.

Hello,I was sleeved May 26,2011.your stomach has to learn to contract to digest your food again,so gramping is normal.dont forget to only drink one small swallow every 15 minutes slowly, maybe your drinking to much at a time or to close together. if I take a big swallow even now it will hurt alittle. It takes alot of getting use to.I miss being normal.Let me know how it goes.good luck

As soon as I went to bed at night--on nights 5 thru 7 after surgery--my stomach would cramp and gurgle so bad I couldn't get to sleep. I didn't feel anywhere near "normal" until day 11. My stomach calmed down after that. The incisions were still tender til about 3 weeks out and it took at least that long for the lump-feeling to subside when I swallowed. I'm having the lump in my throat again but that's because I just passed the mushy stage and my sleeve is being challenged by "soft" foods now. It all gets better a bit at a time, but I think the process is going to take longer than I thought.

Hi-

Try drinking warm or room temp drinks.< /p>

plain Water was the worst for me, and still is, however zero drinks, Vitamin water or alike I can get down. I drink them diluted. still not cold, just room temp.

I also could drink hot stuff easier, lucky me I go for the Decaf latte, every so often...

I'm back to stage II foods, stage III didn't go so well.

I was sleeved on June 22nd. I had extreme pain until just a few days ago. I asked the doctor and he said everyone has different pain levels. He also said they go in with all of their instruments, camera, and such and there are inside stitches from cutting the muscle. It made sense. I just started feeling better and becoming more mobile. Unbelievably, one thing that helped me was to go swimming. Water therapy is incredible. Your body has more flexibility and less resistance in the water. Even if you just get in a pool and walk around, I think it will help. It did wonders for me.

I used 1 ounce medicine cups and a checklist to get through my liquids. I could drink about a third of an ounce every 15 minutes initially. Every time I finished an ounce I would check it off my list. It really helped me to get through those first two weeks.

Have you tried lots of different temperatures? I'm the opposite of other people... ice cold beverages are much better for my tummy than room temp or warm drinks. The warmer the drink the more nauseated I get.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
