Had VSG on 1st July 2011 - everything seems to be fine...

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone. I have just registered on VerticalSleeveTalk.com and wanted to share my experience with you.

I had my sleeve surgery on the 1st of July in a hospital in Greece. I remember the pain right after the surgery, being the pain of the gas trying to come out of my body. Otherwise I don't remember having any other pain on the first day. From the second day onwards the pain mainly focuses on the stomach, which feels a bit stiff (like a sore muscle) and the pain of the hole over the stomach where they have attached a bag that collects blood. This pulled me a bit and had some difficulty walking and getting out of bed.

I started to drink Water on the 4th of July. The first experience was, let's say, very gassy! It felt like gas was having a party all over my body.

I am home now and i am on a liquid diet until Saturday (9 July). I have to take small sips otherwise it is quite painful. I think the stomach has to get a bit of training before starting to accept large liquid quantities again. I go to the toilet (for number 1 and number 2) regularly. However, since I am only on liquids number 2 feels like number 1 :)

I have lost 5kgs since my surgery and I am very excited about the effect this will have on my life.

Everything is going fine to date (knock on wood)!

I would be pleased to hear from others who have recently had the surgery!

Hi, Congrats on your surgery! I was sleeved June 27. I felt like I was hit by a bus ....lol but everyday gets better. I'm 9 days out and I feel great. My stomach muscles ache but its tolerable.

I was soooo gassy .....it was horrible! It will pass. I couldn't drink ice cold drinks for about a week. They had to be room temperature, it really seemed to help.

Good luck to you!

I have found that coconut water(clear liquid) helped break through my digestive system rather quickly and helped my body cope with the excess gas. I went from one night jumping off the walls not being able to sleep, to just minor discomfort the next day. I also spent 4 hours pacing the hospital to help get my bowels going as well. Once you get your bowels going, I thnk you have turned the corner.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
