Does anyone have side effects from their Ursodiol/Actigall?

Recommended Posts

My surgeon basically gave me the option to try Ursodiol if I wanted to. I have the prescription and they said it wouldn't hurt me to take it (they are monitoring my liver to be sure), but it may not be necessary. They said that the population of UCLA sleevers is about 6% with gallbladder issues while 10% of the general population has problems, so they left it up to me. It seems like if UCLA has only had 6% of their patients need it, then I may not want it. But after reading horror stories on here, I don't want to go through a gallstone attack and gallbladder surgery. Tiffykins has really good opinions on this issue and she has experienced gallbladder issues. Anyone else have any side effects? UCLA didn't even prescribe it, my GP did after I read about it on here, then I discussed it with my surgeon before taking it....and I'm still deciding.

I've been on it for almost 3 weeks and the only thing I've noticed (may be unrelated) is that my hair seems so brittle and dry. Other than that I haven't had any problems; but I haven't had any blood work to check liver functions either. I too questioned whether I really needed to take it but the responses on here talked me into following my doctors orders. I only have to take it for 5 months total.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
