6 Month Supervised Dieters

Recommended Posts

@carscot01: Wait, I am confused. How do you have a denial letter? Normally, you have to complete everything then you submit.

My pcp sent the referral for WLS, scheduled me to start my 6 months of supervised weight loss and my 3 PT appts. I just received my letter from the insurance company (based off my physician's referral) that I was denied because I had not completed my 6 months of "supervised" weight loss...She told me it would happen (thats just how WHA) works...So...now I need to finish my 6 months (only 5 now) and re-submit the refferal...not sure why they do things this way..

Hello from Chicago!! I am on month 2 of my 6 month program.. I met w/ surgeon yesterday... I was sold of the band, but he recommended the Sleeve due to the amount of weight I need to lose... Thankfully, I don't have any co-morbidities, just a back injury being aggravated by my weight...

I'm doing okay, struggling to eat like I need to.. as far as the number of meals and Protein w/ each meal and snack. My NUT thinks my body has slipped into starvation mode b/c I wasn't eating.. I guess I was just too busy and disgusted!! But I'm much better... Started on 5K IU of Vitamin D daily, cause it was very low.. other than that, I'm good.. just trying not to freak out!!!

You know, I am sure there is quite a few of us going through this process right now. Yet, I have not communicated with more than a couple in the last four months! How are my fellow 6MPSWL pre-op friends doing? Any comments? Vents? Things that are working for you right now? I am going to be going into my fifth month starting July 1st, and I am super excited! That means only 1 month left after that.

However, it hasn't been easy at all. I have been stalled for the last month, and cutting out carbs has been a.... trial. I have slowly start incorporating exercise, but I am not the best at it. But I also have started a Vitamin regimen and that has been really helpful in making me feel better throughout the day.

@carscot01: I can see why you were bummed. That is a pretty convoluted process that really seems to go a little backwards. Good luck on your journey, I am sorry it is having a rough start. You will get through this though.

@favoredone: My body did the same thing. I used to eat 1 meal a day at the end of a 12 hours day. Welcome to the forum! Hope you find the information you need from the forum, this is a great place to find that and support.

Congrats!!!! My 3rd month starts tomorrow. I haven't been to the doctor for an official weigh in yet but from my scale at home, I'm down 15 more lbs (27 in all) and I'm happy about that. It's hard work but I'm not about to give up. I can't wait until I'm where you are just waiting for approval and to finally get the call.

Guest Rosalind

Your doctor should have been taking notes on the first visit which would count as one month. My final visit will be on Friday August 12.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
