PRE OP DIET

Recommended Posts

So, my surgeon wants me to lose 10-20 lbs before surgery. I am planning on having my surgery in September, but I do not have a scheduled surgery date yet. I have not started dieting yet. I have been going to my PCP for 4 months now, as a pre-req. for surgery. We have casualy discussed diet, but nothing major. I am going on Vacation July 9th-July 16th. In my mind I am thinking I will continue to eat as I want until I get back from vacation, then I will go into hardcore dieting. I know this is probably not a good plan....Anybody in the same situation...any advice?

My advice to you would be start dieting today!!!!

The more you can lose pre-op the better off you will be. It will make your surgery go smoother and make your recovery time easier!

My dr. wanted me to lose 20lbs and I lost 55lbs. He said he wished all his paitents would do the same. He had no problems and my surgery was a breeze for him. I did not have a single complication and went back to work in 7 days. I attribute my success to such a big weight loss pre-op.

You are also setting yourself up for your life after surgery and the way you will eat forever. Put those habits into place now for success later!Plus, the more you lose, the less you will have to lose post-op!

Good luck to you!

Kelly :)

Wow you answered both questions I had. I was also wondering how much time I should plan to be out of work. Thanks

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
