diarrhea after 4 weeks

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I was sleeved on June 1st and was on liquids for the first 3 weeks. Now eating soft foods and liquids and tolerating well. However, I can't shake this diarrhea. I have had it since the beginning. It is not constant but it comes on everytime I need to go. Anyone had to deal with this and for how long? My doctor said you should have solid BM even on liquids. Can I take immodium? It is getting tiresome and any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Lynne

I had it too for about 3 weeks. I attributed it to the Protein Drinks. Atkins shakes were the worst and really made me have to go!!

once i stopped drinking those, i was better. if you are drinking a lot of Protein drinks, stop them for a few days and see if it stops. that could be your problem.

my dr. doesn't like me to have them anyway! says i should get my protein from solid sources as it stays with me longer. i do have one occassionaly, but now, they don't bother me anymore.

good luck!

Kelly

I'm having the same issue. I had my surgery June 20th and I was on the Protein Shakes two weeks beforehand and I've had nothing but diarrhea since. To make matters worse, I was treated with antibiotics (Clindamycin) for pneumonia and diarrhea could be a serious side effect. Unfortunately, I had it so bad yesterday, there was also a lot of blood. I'm not certain if it's the 'time of the month' or it came from my bowels. The nurse at my doctor's office is suggesting that I might be lactose intolerant and wants me to switch to soy Protein shakes. She also thinks the blood could be from hemorrhoids or lower GI problem since it wasn't a black/tar/black speck look, which could indicate bleeding from upper GI. I'm not real keen on soy, so I'm going to see if there are other alternatives. Are we supposed to have solid bowel movements on liquid diets? Thanks for posting! (sorry about being so graphic)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
