Hello for the first time!!

I'm totally pumped to be sleeved in just two weeks! Everything is in order and ready to go- exept for letting my friends and family in on what I'm doing with the exception of my husband and mother. I'm just not sure what to say! I'm 200 and 5'6", to them I look ok. I feel MUCH different. Any advice?

To tell or not?? That is a very personal choice. I personally did not tell a soul but my husband and still have not!

I don't think it is anyone's business and I didn't want to hear all the negative comments and have my loved ones try to convince me not to do it. I knew what I wanted to do and that it was the right thing for me. I didn't need anyone to tell me otherwise!

I may one day tell my mom, but for now, I am on a low carb, high Protein diet with exercise. That is the truth :D and I lost 55lbs pre-op, so nobody really suspects too much!

Good luck in whatever decision you make!

Kelly

I am going with the traditional I have a "hiatal hernia" bit. That covers why I have to do the pre op diet, go take all these tests, have surgery and my tummy will hurt recovering. It also explains away the odd diet after for at least a couple months. I can say "Wow, this hernia was great...i wish I had one earlier so I could have lost this much weight" blah blah blah. After a couple months I figure if they get suspicious I can say "after the hernia surgery I lost so much weight, i am not hungry and am making sure I get my nutrition in so I am going to stick with this diet until I change my mind".

I used this for work and am going to for everyone. I dont want anyones opinions good or bad. This for me is very personal and my baggage. My hubby and one coworker know...that is it. Not even my mom or mother in law (who is at my house everyday but that is a different story).

Bottom line do what you need to do. If you need the support and feel they will give it then share. I dont feel I need the support from anyone but my husband and them knowing will only add to the embarassment I have for l getting this fat.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
