1 week out. Almost every sip hurts.

Recommended Posts

Okay, one day behind me and I'm already feeling that little bit better! Hallelujah! I'm able to get down a little more Water, a little more Protein drink. I think I felt completely guilty that I couldn't get down the 40 grams or Protein and 40 oz. of Water in one day. Well, tough. I'm doing it as my body is allowing it and I'm feeling better already.

For those of you who haven't had the procedure yet and this was a scarey post - don't feel frightened, be grateful for the awareness. The awareness that it might be possibly difficult to drink any fluids shortly after the surgery but to be aware that it does seem to go away and to be aware not to beat yourself up if you can't get all of the liquids in at once.

One day at a time!

I'm 11 days out and I still can't get in 64oz of liquids. I just do the best I can and sip, sip, sip. This is a great response. Thank you. :D

I'll scan the diet info today. There are also two pages of nutritional info for Protein Drinks and the websites for them that I think you guys may find helpful.

My scanner is being a jerk, so this is going to take a little longer than expected. Sorry guys. :(

Sweetie sounds soooo normal to me! I had a terrible time post op! Every sip was super painful for me as well. When I saw my surgeon at a post op appointment he didn't seem to be worried at all and actually told me that because I was having such a hard time I was going to do well. By day 14 I was feeling so much better. Just remember, you will feel better with time, and you will be so thankful you did this for yourself :)

Thanks for the encouragement. I already feel so much better and have been able to slowly start on mushies. I overdid it today because I can't tell when I'm full yet, but now I know that I have to be diligent about measuring my food. :)

I am taking the tiniest sips imaginable and it hurts! I'm having such a hard time getting fluids in and I'm a week out of surgery. Each time I take a sip, I have pain in my chest right below my rib cage and straight through to my back. It feels like it's probably gas pain, but I'm not positive. It makes taking my daily meds and Vitamins an all day event and it sucks. Is this normal? I'm terrified that this is some kind of sign of a leak. I've tried room temperature, refrigerated, and warm liquids. I've tried Water, Gatorade G2, apple juice, drinkable yogurt, DanActive, veggie broth, Tomato Soup, and Oh Yeah (which is like Muscle Milk). Popsicles hurt too, but not as much. I'm at my wit's end. I don't know how I'm supposed to get anything in when each sip hurts. It's like extreme aversion therapy. By the time I'm finally healed, I won't be able to look at liquids again.

Can you guys tell me how you were doing a week out from surgery and if what I have going on is abnormal?

And this too, SHALL pass! instead dwelling on present, focus on the pounds off future! It will all be worth it in the next few weeks.

Just to give you a little follow-up on my situation too and hopefully it will help others. Luckily the drinking of fluids has gotten much better but I kept continuing to have shoulder pain at night time whenever I would lie down. It got so bad yesterday that I took Tylenol, did a heating pad and walked around thinking it was gas trapped. I got the shoulder pain to go away but I continued to have horrible chest, shoulder, neck pain and shortness of breath - I could barely move. I went to ER yesterday in which they did a chest x-ray, CAT scan and blood tests. I was diagnosed with pneumonia. I am feeling a little better today with a lot of antibiotics and pain meds. If something doesn't feel right, please get it checked out friends!

I also would love that diet plan please. i'm getting sleeved in three weeks. Your post didn't scare me, just made me more aware. Thanks for posting and how to alieviate such situations should they happen to those who have just been sleeve or are about to be. Happy to hear you are feeling better. Onwards and upwards from here!!!!

This is me right now too, except my surgery was 2 days ago. At least we aren't alone in this.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
